Sot - a river In the Yaroslavl region

A huge number of rivers entangle the entire territory of Russia as a web. In total, if you count even the smallest, there are more than 2.5 million of them! Moreover, the vast majority does not even have a name.

The Sot River in the Yaroslavl Region also belongs to the rivers of Russia. It will be discussed in the article.

River description

The river originates from the village of Krasny Prechistensky district (north-west) of the Yaroslavl region. This site is a tract Medvedkovo near the village of Maleevo. The upper reaches flow here, and the middle and lower parts pass along the border of the Lyubimsky and Danilovsky regions. Earlier Sot flowed into the river. Kostroma, but today it carries its waters into an artificial reservoir, which was formed after filling the upper reservoir of the Gorky Hydroelectric Power Station. Geographically, this area is located on the north-eastern section of the Yaroslavl-Kostroma lowland. The length of the river is 170 kilometers, the catchment area is 2630 square meters. km, depth - from 0.2 to 4 meters. The width of the channel in the upper reaches is 8-15 meters, in the lower - 20-25 meters. The total basin area is 1460 square meters. km

Water transport on the Soti River

Previously, for a rather long time, a forest was rafted along this reservoir. The Sot River is interesting (see the photo in the article) for its fast flow and channel forms - rifts and reaches. In the 19th century, there were eleven working mills on the river. In places and now here you can find wooden piles from those old water mills.

The food of the river is mostly snowy. The flood period is April-May (rafting time). Under ice, water is from October-November to April-month.

Relief

The upper reaches of the Soti River are characterized by high, steep, forested banks, and the middle by deep valleys with high terraces, with forest remains preserved in some places.

The lower course of the river (beyond the mouth of the Konsha, below the village of Titovo) goes to the lowland plain, where there are large bends. Here, the influence of the backwater of the reservoir is noticeable - the river flow slows down significantly.

In the upper and middle reaches of the river there are fords through which it is quite possible to get across the technique. These places are popular for winter fishing not only among local residents, but also among fishermen from Yaroslavl. In addition, Sot and Hole are chosen by lovers of boating.

Below the confluence with the river Lunka Sot is convenient for tourist rafting during the summer low water period. During the flood there is the opportunity to go on them by kayak or by boat to the very upper reaches.

Tributaries and settlements

The tributaries of the Sot River are Konsha, Hole, Black, Koknas, Korsha, Kozinka, Tyukhta, Skorodumka, Lent, Bezymyanka, Sonja, Motenka, Koncha, Temsha. It should be noted that before the appearance of the reservoir, a rather large river Kast flowed into it.

On the banks of the Soti there are a large number of small settlements, among which the largest is the village of Prechistoe (urban type) of the Pervomaisky district. At the village of Levinsky, the river crosses the Moscow-Kholmogory highway (M8) and the railway (Danilov-Vologda direction), and near the village of Borodino, the railway line (Danilov-Lyubim).

In the lower reaches of the Sot River is the federal reserve "Yaroslavsky".

Sot - a unique fish river

The richest fish rivers in the Yaroslavl region are Uhra and Sot. They are especially good for winter fishing. Ponds of the Nekrasovsky fishing and hunting farm in the area of the Red Profintern and the river are more suitable for summer fishing. Volga on the site from the Rybinsk reservoir to the Kostroma region. In Sot, as in other reservoirs of the region, the most common fish species are pike perch, pike, crucian carp, roach and perch.

For many years, Sot has been known for its rich fish stocks. On its shores, you can always see clusters of amateur fishermen in both winter and summer. Such a picture is an integral part of the surrounding wonderful landscape.

Problems

The Sot River of the Yaroslavl Region is a picturesque waterway, which until recently had huge stocks of a wide variety of fish species. However, biological resources are depleted, and this reservoir was gradually emptied. The pressure on the river increased, and environmental organizations sounded the alarm all the time, as potential reserves began to decrease. The catches of the most valuable commercial fish species, such as pike, bream and pike perch, steadily decreased from year to year.

One feature of the river should be noted. It is in the winter on Soti that a unique ecological situation takes shape. The river, starting in February, is a saving place for fish. Kostroma spills are their traditional habitat. When the level of the Gorky Reservoir in winter drops, starved by oxygenated fresh water, the fish finds refuge in the deep water of the Soti River. And unregulated fishing in winter in these places began to lead to rather disastrous results.

Today, active work is being done not only to conserve fish numbers, but also to increase them. In the future, some companies plan to stock up the site with new varieties of fish.
