Tibetan Spaniel: breed description and photo

An intelligent companion who loves communication, takes part in long walks with pleasure or just sitting nearby, is friendly and cheerful, albeit with character - this is what the owners of the Tibetan spaniel characterize.

This is a decorative breed of small dogs, outwardly resembling an English toy spaniel. Dog handlers call it briefly - tibby. For many centuries, these animals were used by Tibetan monks to conduct religious rituals. Cute tibbies spun special prayer drums, with special texts arranged on them. The monks were sure that the participation of four-legged assistants in the ritual helps to attract positive energy and establish a connection with the spirits.

In addition, it was believed that the souls of the dead moved into these dogs. It is for this reason that animals were treated condescendingly, but without sentimentality.

Parenting and training

It is necessary to start raising a Tibetan spaniel puppy as early as possible. Tibby can show character, and therefore it is not easy to teach them discipline. Education in the first months of life is primarily aimed at establishing contact with the owner.

First, the puppy must learn to respond to its nickname, to learn where its place is, to get used to walking on a leash. Spaniels quickly learn the commands "Sit!", "Nearby!", "Place!", "To me!", "It is impossible!" thanks to a fairly high level of intelligence. However, the owners should know that the animals are quite stubborn: do not be surprised that the first time the team will have to repeat 25-30 times each. To motivate your pet to perform the exercise, do not skimp on praise, treat him to a treat.

Puppy selection

If you, having read this article, decided to urgently go to the bird market for a charming puppy, we want to warn you. This breed is quite rare in Russia, so there can be no talk of acquiring a baby on the market. You need to find a specialized nursery for Tibetan spaniels. We want to warn right away that in Russia there are few of them, mainly in large cities.

As a rule, puppies are transferred to new owners at two to three months of age. By this time, the responsible breeder should give the baby the first vaccinations. You should pay attention to the appearance of the animal. The puppy should have an elongated torso, a domed head, a flattened muzzle, expressive eyes, rather wide set, even back, clean wool coat. The best indicator of Tibby's well-being is the behavior of the baby: a healthy puppy is playful, agile, inquisitive.
