Do-it-yourself four-pitched roof. Description of installation features

The roof, like any other architectural element, can decorate the house and make it special. Often a unique roof is the pride of the owner. In addition to the popular and simpler in the performance of single and double-pitched roofs, there are four -pitched roofs with complex installation technology and a rafter system. They come in three types - tent, hip and half-hip. With proper design and a clear selection of the necessary materials, a four-pitched roof can be built with your own hands.

The main distinguishing feature of such a roof is the sloping (diagonal) rafters directed to the corners. They carry a large load and therefore longer than usual. Characteristic is the presence of short rafters (sprigs), based not on the ridge run, but on the mowing.
The four- pitched roof, built with your own hands , begins with the establishment of the Mauerlat and its strong connection with the walls of the house, subject to a number of features:

  • the distance between the Mauerlat and the outside of the wall should not be less than 5 meters;
  • for fastening the beam using anchors passing through the holes in the beam itself;
  • so that the Mauerlat do not disperse and withstand rigidity, they are connected closer to the corners with trusses, wooden or metal jumpers, placing them at an angle.

Racks are mounted in accordance with the marking and fastened with jibs. A ridge beam is installed on them using a plumb line.

In order for the four- pitched roof of the house, installed with its own hands, to last a long time, the following actions are carried out:

  • the spatial arrangement and height of the ridge run are maintained;
  • the racks rest on a supporting inner wall or on running beams laid along a supporting wall , which makes it possible to balance the severity of the roof;
  • the size of the overhang of the future roof is made in the range from 0.5 m to 1 m;
  • lateral slopes are formed by the establishment of intermediate rafter legs and growths, while attention is paid to parallelism and their location in one plane;
  • in the last turn, the roof lathing is installed with 40x40 or 50x50 mm bars using boards with a cross section of 25x100 or 25x150 mm.

It is quite possible to build a four-pitched roof with your own hands, subject to the following rules:

- The cross-section of the rafters due to the double load should be twice the cross-section of the remaining elements. Also, their attachment points, carrying great tension, are reinforced with perforated metal plates or wire rods.

- Splicing of the truss rafters is carried out in the upper part of the rafter leg with reinforcement of this place with a strut or strut. This process is important in order for the four-pitched roof, made by yourself, to be strong enough.

- In order to do without a cut, but not to loosen the rafter during the fastening of the wedges, support bars are used.

- A long ridge span needs additional support legs.

- The scaffolds are staggered on both sides of the rafters. This will distribute the load evenly.

- Rafters are supported by struts abutting against load-bearing walls.

With the right approach and strict observance of the above, the four-slope roof, built with your own hands, will last for many years.
