The Vazuza River is a right tributary of the Volga. It flows through the Smolensk and Tver regions of the European part of Russia.
Construction materials were delivered to St. Petersburg along this river and the Gzhati tributary during the time of Peter the Great. Sychevsk merchants, conducting trade, transported bread, tar, hemp and flax across the water.

The name of the river comes from its main purpose "Vazuza - the river along which goods are delivered."
The river Vazuza takes its beginning on the Smolensk Upland, its northern slopes, near the village of Maryino. The length is 162 km. Its waters are replenished from 6 right and 4 left tributaries. The narrow and shallow valley, along which the river flows the first 30 km, passes into the bottom moraine plain.
The shores are high and hilly, only small copses are found in some places. The Vazuza River with clear water has a sandy bottom, sometimes gravel is found on it.
Only near the city of Sychevka did Vazuz turn into a large river up to 30 m wide. Not far from the town of Zubtsov, in the late 70s, a dam was built that formed the
Vazuz reservoir. Its waters, used to supply Moscow, flooded the most rapids of the river valley.
The Vazuza River is replenished from melting snow, rains and underground springs. The ice cover is established in early November, and in the first days of April, ice breaks open.
