Raglan knitting differs from most knitwear in that the work in this case is done from top to bottom. All details of the sweater are knitted to the end of the armhole with the selected pattern, and the collar, cuffs and lower edge can be made with an elastic band or garter stitch. A jumper from a melange thread will look elegant and original even when knitting with a front smooth surface.
Men's Raglan Sweater
For work you will need:
- knitting needles number 2.5;
- wool yarn - 500 grams;
- safety pins or auxiliary knitting needles;
Long hosiery or circular knitting needles make raglan knitting much easier, but you can get by with ordinary, comfortable for you.
Beginning of work
We collect 112 loops on the knitting needles and knit a round elastic band 4 cm high, then distribute the loops as follows: 40 loops on the front and back and 14 loops on each sleeve. The remaining 4 loops are used to form raglan, which is obtained using the yarn on both sides of the connecting loop. In total, we carry out 8 crochets in each front row.
After distributing the loops, we continue to work, knitting 40 loops of the front, double crochet, 1 person., Double crochet, 14 people., Double crochet, 1 person., Double crochet, 40 loops of the back, double crochet, 1 person., Double crochet. Raglan knitting with the addition of loops is continued until its length reaches 32 centimeters, then parts of the sweater are performed separately. To do this, remove the hinges of the sleeves and the backs on safety pins or single knitting needles and continue knitting the front in stocking knit another 30 centimeters. We finish the work with an elastic band 6–8 centimeters high and close the loops. In a similar way, we carry out the back of the sweater and proceed to knit the sleeves with stocking, smoothing the loops on both sides of each 8 row. The length of the sleeve to the cuffs will be about 40 cm, the cuffs themselves are knitted with an elastic band another 6 cm.
The finished product is steamed with an iron through a cotton cloth, without affecting the gum. We connect the front and back, then the seams of the sleeves. Our raglan sweater is ready, but do not rush to hang it on your shoulders. If you do not have a special hanger for knitwear, store the product when folded.
Above, we examined simple raglan knitting in order to understand the principle of its implementation. However, instead of one connecting loop, you can use fragments of the pattern that the sweater is made of. In products with Irish Arana, a beautiful embossed raglan is obtained from any not too wide braid. In this case, adding loops can be done to the right and left of the relief, knitting the crochets with a crossed loop according to the figure. Two or three connecting loops knitted with facial ones can become the highlight of a female sweater made of fancy yarn.
In cases where the pattern requires knitting from the bottom up, you can perform raglan in the reverse order. To do this, we knit all parts of the product separately, and then connect them. Instead of yarn in each second row, we knit together three loops so that the middle of them lies on top. When the size of the cutout becomes sufficient, we arrange the gate in any convenient way. You can also remove extra loops under a braid or relief. This method of knitting requires some experience, but it is also simple, and the result will delight you.
