Name history

Among the locals, two names of the reservoir are common. One is Berchikul, the second is Wolf Lake. These hydronyms have been used for several centuries. There is one legend that says that earlier on the shore of the reservoir there were large deposits of gold. Thanks to this, an expression appeared: "Take a kul and collect." However, this information is not officially confirmed.

The uniqueness of the lake

Berchikul is a lake that strikes with a variety of natural conditions on the coast. There are various deposits of granites and marine limestones. The bottom of the reservoir is sandy and silty. The uniqueness of this place also lies in the fact that there are four natural landscapes: mountain-light coniferous, forest-steppe, mountain taiga and lake-river.

The water regime of the lake also deserves attention. The fact is that almost nothing follows from it, only one small river. In the warm season, a lot of water evaporates from its surface. Despite this, the level does not change, which is simply amazing. This was noticed by those who live in the vicinity, and all observations were subsequently confirmed. However, there is nothing mystical in such a phenomenon - it has long been established that the lake is replenished by underground sources and mountain streams. They are the main "suppliers" of water. Due to this, we can draw the following conclusion: Berchikul - a mountain lake, spring and spring.

The southern part of the coast of this reservoir also has a unique landscape. For three kilometers there is a lowland, which in some parts has undergone bogging (in the past this territory was the bottom of the lake).

Lake dimensions

From the above, it can easily be concluded that Berchikul is a lake that in the past was much larger, in all likelihood, three times. There is a theory that water passed through the mountains and poured into another body of water. As a result, the remainder is the current Wolf Lake, along with a small swamp located nearby. The gap is clearly visible. And that flowing rivulet, in all probability, was formed as a result of mountain streams.

It is a kind of crypt, in which were the remains of 44 people, as well as products from birch bark, bronze, ceramics and bones. Scientists have established that those people lived before our era.
