"Portal 2" - the legendary computer game from the studio Valve. A game with a capital letter, capturing the minds of millions of players around the world. An excellent plot, excellent engine and logical solutions to problems at the levels - for all this, gamers from all over the world quickly fell in love with the game. Portal 2 mods were supposed to extend the life of the game, but this did not happen. But they extended the life of other games.
Convenient Portal
Portalgan or portal gun is a necessary game item of all portal series games. As the name implies, this is not a weapon. They called it a gun only conditionally. This is a portable device for creating portals on special, portal-forming surfaces.
The principle of operation of the device is extremely simple. A right-click shot of a computer mouse opens a teleport that does not lead anywhere. It must be associated with a teleport of a different color, which can be opened by clicking on the left mouse button. Two portals are connected to each other. Entering one of them, the character will exit the other. Also in the gun is a manipulator with an energy field of zero level. Simply put, it’s also “Gravipushka”. Not the same as in the famous Half Life 2, but also quite interesting.
Absolutely the whole plot of the game is built on the principle of operation of this gun and on the basis of its interaction with the game world.
Unsuccessful modding
Mods in Portal 2 have not taken root. There are many reasons for this. First of all, it is impossible to change the concept of this game. If you add enemies and military weapons, then this will be a completely different game. Adding a new storyline also does not make sense, because in the game itself there is a level constructor. With it, you can create your own puzzles and play on those locations that other players have created.
Universal concept
However, the concept of the portal device fits perfectly into any other game in which the physics engine allows such interaction with the world. It suddenly turned out that the presence of a portal-gang does not spoil games of other genres, but rather complements them, expanding opportunities. This led to the fact that the corresponding modifications began to add a portal device to a wide variety of games.
Minecraft
This is a very promising sandbox with great potential. The Portal 2 mod entered Minecraft so well that it became the base modification for thousands of custom builds. Indeed, having such a gun in a game with a software-generated world is cool. You can always instantly return to the base, unload inventory and just as quickly return to the place of extraction of resources.
