History of the museum
They started talking about creating a memorial place that will preserve the memory of Vysotsky immediately after his death. This was thought not only by the artists of the theater where Vladimir Semenovich worked, but also by connoisseurs of his talent, throwing letters at the relevant authorities.
In 1987, a charity account was opened, which received funds from patrons and money for holding memorable evenings and conferences about the actor and performer. In 1988, a working group of twenty people was created, which included famous people of our time.
Becoming the first director was awarded the honor of P. M. Leonov. The Vysotsky Museum on Taganka made its first action on the tenth anniversary of the death of the poet. The exhibits, in the absence of a separate building, were exhibited in the hall of the Soviet Cultural Foundation, and then at VDNH.
The Vysotsky Center Museum on Taganka was finally opened in 1992. Since 1996, he has been led by the son of the famous actor, poet, composer and performer, Nikita Vysotsky.
Museum Halls
Within the walls of the museum are three halls that have names along the lines of the author’s songs. The entire exhibition includes more than a thousand exhibits. The main collection was formed in 2000. During the work of the museum, eighteen books and albums were published telling about the life and work of Vysotsky.
The first hall: "I am all in the light ..."
This hall presents exhibits that reflect the scenic activities of Vysotsky. All the costumes in which the actor once performed, the material shot on television and other things related to creativity are exhibited at the beginning of the exposition.
The second hall: “Your own track”
Within these walls, Vysotsky appears domestic and undisguised. Toys that came from childhood, letters and drafts of verses reveal him as a person, and not as a lump of Soviet culture. It also contains records, collections of the author’s works and memoirs about him, which were released between 1980 and 2000.
The third hall: the office of Vladimir Vysotsky
In this room, the atmosphere of the poet’s workplace was recreated from his apartment on Malaya Gruzinskaya, where he spent five years of his life (from 1975 to 1980). The modest atmosphere of a mixture of home-made furniture and precious woods indicates the eccentricity and originality of the person who created it. This hall was opened in 2008.
Museum Gallery
The Vysotsky Museum on Taganka has its own gallery, which bears the name of Sam Brook from Vladimir Semenovich’s song “Marathon”. Within the walls of this building are exhibitions of young talented artists, both group and individual.
The gallery began its activities in 1997, and still it has no analogues, as it operates on the basis of the museum, which is very rare. Now in this room are exhibitions of representatives of art and photographs.
The activities of the theater and concert hall
It is impossible to imagine Vladimir Semenovich outside of stage activity, so the location in the museum of the concert hall is justified. The room can accommodate one hundred and thirty people.
On the stage of this theater and concert hall are young talented performers with their individual projects. In addition to the concert, there is a theater program. The stage hosts productions based on Vysotsky's scripts and about him.
Museum library
Since the Vysotsky Museum on Taganka is a cultural scientific center, a library was equipped in it and a reading room in it. It appeared in 1994 as a collection of scientific works. The library contains more than fifty thousand works on Vysotsky, archival materials of his relatives and friends about the poet.
