Mass grave number 6

The memorial complex dedicated to the war against fascism, together with Diorama, includes an exhibition of armored vehicles, artillery and a mass grave with registration number 6. Soldiers and officers who died in the battle for the city are buried here.

In 1942, German troops captured part of Voronezh. To liberate the city from enemies, Soviet soldiers dug in the area between the Vogres bridge and the Chernavsky dam. The Nazis bombed and fired fighters all the time. The killed soldiers were buried in a grove near the village of Monastyrschenka. Today, the area is part of the city, and the grove is transformed into the Patriot Park.

Until the beginning of the 90s, a monument towered over the mass grave: a soldier breaks a swastika. The monument was dismantled, but in 2010, in connection with the assignment of the title of “City of Military Glory” to Voronezh, a stele appeared in front of the Diorama building.
