Moscow North River Station

Since the sixties of the last century, Moscow has gained the glory of the port of five seas. Shipping channels entered the system, and the main waterways were deepened, which allowed traveling along the river-sea route with access to five seas: the Black, White, Azov, Caspian and Baltic.

North River Station
In the capital, the river Moskva is navigable (its entire extent). The Canal named after Moscow also belongs to shipping channels (it is connected to the river by a system of locks).

Three ports are equipped for transshipment of goods. For the transportation of passengers by water within the city, river trams (small motor ships) are provided, mooring at numerous marinas.

For those planning long-distance cruises, separate river stations have been built, including the Northern River Station, which is also an architectural monument. In everyday life it is called Khimki.

North River Station (Moscow)
The northern river port is located on the Leningradskoye Shosse (Khimki Reservoir). Refers to the Moscow River Shipping Company (CAO Moscow).

They built the Northern River Station in 1937, even before they filled the Khimki reservoir. It has the shape of a huge ship. Among the characteristic architectural elements are a wide, rather spacious central staircase and a high spire crowned with a star.

The entrance to the Northern River Station is decorated with majolica panels depicting, in particular, Moscow of the future. On the terraces of the station you can admire two fountains, symbolically called "North" and "South", which implies a connection between all the seas, in all directions. Unique chimes brought from the famous Resurrection Cathedral from Volokolamsk are built into the tower of the station.

Waiting for guests - a restaurant located in the building. As conceived by the designers, a mechanism was installed in the tower that allows the spire to be lowered if necessary (at the end and resumption of navigation). But over all these years, this has been done only a few times.

Northern river port
The northern river port has a length of one and a half kilometers, with half being built in the 60s. The rest was completed later.

The Northern River Station is the departure point for ships to Astrakhan, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, etc. Several special routes have been created for lovers of travel on ships (Joy Bay, Troitsky Bay). Walking along the reservoir is very popular (landing on the shore is not provided).

Part of the cruises starts from the Yuzhny station (Nagatinsky Zaton), the rest (most) - from the North.

The Northern River Station (Moscow) is located in the northwestern part of the capital (Leningradskoye Shosse).

The most convenient way to get to it is by metro, leaving at the Rechnoy Vokzal station. At the exit of the metro you will see a park. You can walk to the pier if you wish, time and energy: a few minutes along the alley to Leningradsky Prospekt. From there you can see the station building.

You can also get in another way - leaving the subway, immediately turn left and, without going into the park itself, walk along the stalls to the underpass. Once on the other side of the Leningradskoye Shosse, you will see the Northern River Station - a tall building crowned with a spire.
