There are many game projects that are not known to the general public. All of them are lost among the high-profile news about the conceptually "new" parts of Assassin Creed, Fallout and The Witcher. Meanwhile, the little-known studio Crate Entertainment received the rights to the “engine” from Titan Quest and for the last four years painstakingly worked on the game Grim dawn, an overview of which you will now read.

Plot

We will begin our story with the plot of this remarkable game. It is immediately worth noting that we are dealing with the Action RPG genre, which means that you should not expect anything supernatural. The developers will introduce us to the world stuck in the Victorian era. And everything would be fine, but the player will have to fight ... aliens. It seems to be an original idea, but in practice it will be the same monsters familiar to us from any other game.

The main action of the game takes place around the town "Devilish Crossroads", where our hero appears as a refugee. But how did he get there and what led to this?

The game Grim dawn, the review of which you are reading, at the very beginning does not give a definite answer. The screensaver was made anyhow, just like a slurred comic book, which, when viewed, seems to be about hunting sorcerers and witches. However, it is not.

Humanity, in its eternal pursuit of knowledge, opens a portal to the other world and calls out creatures from there. But, as usual, everything goes awry, and the aliens break free. The plot is similar to the well-known “Diablo”, but here a third force comes into play - another alien race, which, in order to prevent the strengthening of its opponents, proceeds to destroy humanity. So, humanity was between two fires, and our hero has to save him.

Gameplay

Actually, a review of the game is not required for Grim dawn. Leveling is fully borrowed from Titan Quest. You can also choose one specialization and go along it in the chosen way. Even the icons do not differ in drawing.

The gameplay itself is not much more diverse - run and shred everything that comes in your way. Interest can only be caused by a search for notes by local residents. Of these, the player gradually learns the history of this world falling to pieces.

Separately, we can distinguish a system for creating weapons, which, according to the developers themselves, was borrowed from the well-known "DotA". What this means, you can find out for yourself by trying in practice.

The only distinguishing feature could be the weapons used by the players. You will be able to use authentic muskets. That's just this idea has already been implemented in Torchlight.

Actually, we can conclude that the developers were not able to bring anything new to the game industry by mixing in the usual slasher not the best ideas from other game projects. By the way, the maximum level of the character is limited to 40. This is insanely small for a project that encroaches on the heights of Diablo and Titan Quest. But on this Grim dawn game, the review of which you are reading, does not end up disappointing.

The main problem faced by the Russian-speaking gamer is localization. It is difficult to imagine such a problematic release. This is probably another significant drawback of the Grim dawn. The review in Russian presented here is not intended to denigrate the game, we just present to your attention the facts.

The fact is that the problems for translators began immediately and did not end for release. There are several problems that they failed to cope with.

  • In the introductory video, the Russian text does not work. So it’s not valuable to learn the background. Look for notes.
  • Dialogs do not work when starting a new game. The localizer offers to run to the first teleport, save and restart the game. After this, conversations with the NPS should go fine.
  • On the loading screens, the appearing “tips” do not fit on one line, and cannot place them on two locators.

As you can see, the Grim dawn, the review of which does not bode well, turned out to be a “failure” both in terms of development and localization.
