Aquarium fish: species compatibility

Every novice aquarist should know that there are special subtleties in keeping and raising fish. For example, you need to know not only what aquarium fish eat. The compatibility of certain types also plays a huge role.

Habitat

It is important to know whether freshwater or brackish fish are preferred by human aquarium fish. Habitat compatibility is one of the main aspects of keeping pets healthy. This should also include the temperature regime that is optimal for a particular species. Many aquarium fish, whose compatibility with the chemical composition of the medium is ideal, differ in their attitude to high or low temperature.

Predators pose a threat to the “calm population”

You can not keep together predatory fish, eating preferably live food, and peaceful, which eat plankton, insect larvae. If individuals of peaceful species are large, then a smaller predator may beware of attacking it. But as soon as it reaches the required size, for the life of a peaceful neighbor, the owner of the aquarium needs to begin to fear and take action: divide the tank with opaque glass, plant fish or give one of the species to another aquarist.

Sizes of inhabitants of an artificial reservoir

Putting large and small inhabitants together is a thankless task. Indeed, even those aquarium fish whose compatibility in terms of habitat, water temperature and nutrition can be considered ideal will be uncomfortable if an individual of a large species lives near small fish. Firstly, the difference in size will affect the amount of food consumed: smaller representatives will probably get only those crumbs with which larger and stronger aquarium fish “disdain”. Compatibility in the aquarium of fish species depends on their size. By the way, even within one species, one should adhere to the same rule: try to contain individuals of approximately the same age and volume. It is easiest to breed small schooling small fishes: they are beautiful, rather unpretentious, affordable and do not require much effort to care. These are guppies, striped zebrafish, barbs, swordsmen, picilia, molliesia. But even this has its own rules: it is still better to keep fry separately until they reach such a size that they can no longer fit in the mouth of their own mother or papule.

Temperament is the most important criterion for friendly neighborhood

The temperament of many creatures on earth, including aquarium fish, is different. The compatibility of species prone to fights with species of calm schooling flocks is zero. Such "brawlers" as Siamese fighting, that is, cockerels, start fights even among themselves, what can we say about a quiet neighborhood with other, smaller and less temperamental fish. Male males are even recommended not to be kept in the same aquarium - fighting spirit is so strong in them. Some owners of aquariums say that a cockerel can even attack its own reflection! The astronotus has a similar temperament: two males are closely "under one roof".
