Krapivin Vladislav Petrovich - one of the most interesting and amazing authors of modern youth and children's literature. This well-known and respected writer is extremely little investigated by authoritative criticism. He rarely gives a public assessment of his own creativity, inviting readers to judge it themselves. However, in his works a whole world was created, plunging into which, I do not want to return to reality. We will talk about the fate and work of this unique author in our article.
Childhood and youth
Krapivin Vladislav was born in 1938, on October 14, in the family of teachers Olga Petrovna and Peter Fedorovich Krapivins in the city of Tyumen. He was the third child of his parents. His father served as a priest in the Orthodox Church for a long time and moved to Siberia from Kirov (Vyatka), fleeing from inevitable repressions. This moment of family history was unknown to the writer until his very advanced age.
As a child, Vladislav Krapivin began to come up with various entertaining stories that he entertained with his peers. In 1956, after graduation, the future writer entered the Gorky Ural State University at the Faculty of Journalism. As a student, he attended a literary circle led by V. N. Shustov, editor of the Ural Pathfinder magazine.
After graduating from the second year, Krapivin entered production practice in the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, where he worked in the department of student youth. There he met another important person for himself - the author of the pedagogy of cooperation Simon Soloveichik.
The beginning of literary activity
Krapivin Vladislav, by his own admission, in his work was greatly influenced by Konstantin Paustovsky. The author carefully studied the works of the eminent writer. In addition, a novice writer in 1963 studied under the direction of Lev Kassil in the section of children's literature.
In 1960, in the spring, the first story by Krapivin appeared in the publication Ural Pathfinder. As a student, he worked in the newspaper âEvening Sverdlovskâ, then worked for several years in the âUral Rangerâ. The authorâs first book, Orion Flight, was published in 1962. She was released at the Sverdlovsk publishing house.
Creative achievements
In 1964, Vladislav Krapivin was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR. The biography of this writer knows many creative achievements. So, in the 1970-1980s, he was a member of the editorial boards of the publications âUral Pathfinderâ and âPioneerâ. In 2007, the author returned to Tyumen, where he received the title of professor at the Tyumen State University and studied with students at the school of literary skill. In 2011, on June 15, the Krapivin Museum appeared in Tyumen with an exposition called âSlavka from Herzen Streetâ. It consists of things reminiscent of the work and life of the writer. In the fall of 2013, Vladislav Petrovich again moved to Yekaterinburg.
Krapivin was published 200 times for his literary work. His books have been translated into different languages ââof the world. Since 2006, the Krapivin International Literary Children's Prize was established. Its chairman is Vladislav Petrovich himself.
Pedagogical concept
Krapivin Vladislav devoted much time to pedagogical work. The originality of his literary works cannot be understood without studying this side of his life. So, in 1961, the famous writer created in Sverdlovsk a different-age children's detachment "Caravel", which received in 1965 the status of a separate (almost independent!) Pioneer squad. The âCaravelaâ had its own oath-motto, which fully indicated the pedagogical orientation of this association: âI will engage in battle with any injustice, meanness and cruelty, wherever I meet them. I wonât wait for someone to stand up for the truth before me. â In this detachment, Vladislav Krapivin brought up new romantic heroes - courageous, disinterested, with a heightened sense of justice. Such were the fearless heroes of the authorâs works.
In addition, Vladislav Petrovich considers childhood a special period in the life of every person, equal with maturity, youth and old age, upholds the principle of cooperation between generations and speaks of the need for each child to have a certain high idea in the inner world. All these postulates are reflected in the writer's work.
Basic works
Vladislav Krapivin, whose bibliography is very extensive, has been engaged in creative activities for fifty years. In 1998-2000 Centerpolygraph publishing house published a twenty-nine-volume collected works of the author. According to the literary critic S. B. Borisov, among all the books created by the writer, one can single out a layer of his works written between 1965 and 1982. It was in him that the image-concept âKrapivinsky boysâ was born. His boys often come into conflict with others, sometimes they have clashes with hooligans or dangerous bandits. It happens that the authorâs heroes even die: the third-grader Vorobyov in the novel âThe Side Where the Windâ saves kids at the cost of their lives; the merciless beating of Vekshin Kirill ends with "Lullaby for Brother." At the same time, heroes rarely receive public recognition - Serezha Kakhovsky, who joined the fight against the gangster group and defended the kids, gets a reprimand on the advice of a pioneer squad. Such an outcome in the works of Krapivin is logical. His heroes often become troublemakers, they are uncomfortable for the outside world with their civic activism.
A world without adults
Krapivin Vladislav Petrovich - adherent of the theory of cooperation of different generations. The heroes of the author are children of different ages, but they share common views on life. In almost all of the writer's books, the elders take care of the younger ones (âValkins friends and sailsâ, âThe side where the wind isâ, âLullaby for brotherâ, âSquire Kashkaâ). A teenager, as a rule, helps his little friend overcome the difficulty and pain of growing up. In fact, in the world of Krapivinsky heroes there are no adults: their participation in the action is as limited as possible and often has a negative character. Adolescents, by contrast, are wise friends and mentors who still remember their own helplessness before evil and injustice and are invariably ready to help a weaker comrade.
"Boy with a sword"
The trilogy entitled âBoy with a swordâ most fully embodied the concept of the author. This is one of his most famous non-fiction works. The story of the same name was published in 1974 in the journal "Pioneer". Later, the writer Vladislav Krapivin created the trilogy, which included âFlag Captainsâ and âRiders from the Rosa Stationâ. The central part in it was the story "The finest hour of Sergei Kakhovsky." In 1981, âThe Boy with the Swordâ, which everyone loved, was published as a separate book in the collection âThe Golden Library. Selected Works for Children and Youth. â
The protagonist of the trilogy - Kakhovsky Seryozha - is one of those dreamers and eccentrics who will not stop at nothing in the struggle for justice. For her sake, he is ready to overcome any difficulties, and therefore his collisions with himself and the world around him are not childishly dramatic.
World of the Great Crystal
As mentioned above, in the 1980s, the author begins to write works of a fantastic direction by author Vladislav Krapivin. In this regard, a series of works entitled "In the depths of the Great Crystal" is indicative. In it, the writer created a whole cosmogonic world with its own history, religion, geography, metaphysics and physics. Vladislav Petrovich even tries to make a map of this fantastic place. The World of the Great Crystal, according to the author, is a multitude of living worlds, touching or passing into each other, existing in one âvertical timeâ. It is inhabited mainly by children. There are few adults in it; they rarely play a decisive role in the development of events.
Favorite heroes in Krapivinâs works are âKoivoâ children (authorâs definition). These are border guards endowed with the ability to penetrate other worlds. The plot of each story in the cycle is based on the fate of one or more of these heroes.
Nowadays
Nowadays, the picture of the world in the work of Krapivin has become much more complicated. The writer remained faithful to the principles of good and justice, however, he realized the full strength and vitality of evil. Now in his books there are disappointment, pain and death. Heroes of Vladislav Petrovich are sometimes accused of lack of mercy, forgetting that the author forces them to fight real evil, in the fight against which there can be no compromise.
The world of the Great Crystal created by Vladislav Krapivin is completely unique in modern Russian literature. The best books from this series are still reread with enthusiasm not only by children, but also by adults. A kind of continuation of this cycle were works written by him in recent years - âShipsâ, âHole Moonâ, âAircraft named Seryozhaâ, âOrange Portrait with Specklesâ.
