One of the most widely used ornaments in knitting can be safely called a crocheted zigzag pattern. The scheme, application and its main features will be considered in this article.
Base pattern
Ornaments based on adding and cutting columns are a classic crochet. For their successful implementation, high qualification of the knitter is not required, only zeal and attentiveness are enough. Cloths made with their help are distinguished by a special texture and color (if materials of different colors are used):
- Successive repetition of rapports contributes to the appearance of vertical even stripes and horizontal - zigzag.
- The borders between the colored stripes are not even, but wavy. This effect allows you to make a smooth transition from one color to another, for this you need at least three colors. Also, craftswomen often use very bright colors to get a colorful canvas.
- The pattern is very convenient for combining with others. Between the stripes of a zigzag ornament, you can include openwork patterns or just a few rows of columns.
The principle of patterning
Any crochet zigzag pattern (the diagram below illustrates this) is based on successive reduction and addition of single crochet or double crochet columns.
Due to the fact that two air loops are knitted at the highest point of the peak, and two columns are not knitted in the trough, the total number of columns in each row remains at the same level.
The steps listed below will allow you to correctly complete the crochet zigzag pattern (patterns with descriptions and samples of canvases are also given in this paragraph).
- The initial row is a chain of 24 air loops (VP), plus three loops for lifting. Further, at the beginning of each row, it is required to perform such a number of loops for lifting.
- The first double crochet (CCH) is knitted into the 4th loop of the base, * then 5 CCH is knitted, two loops are passed, another 5CCH, 2VP * are knitted. The description from * to * must be repeated until the end of each row.
- The second row begins with 1CCH, knitted in the last CCH of the previous row. thus, the amount of CCH is added. Then they perform * 5CCH, 2 CCHs of the previous row remain untied, 5CCH, 2VP *.
- All other rows (both front and back) repeat the third row.
Knitting a dense pattern
In this case, the crochet zigzag pattern was described, the scheme of which provides for minor openwork elements. Holes are formed when the craftswoman knits VP at the peak and passes the columns in the hollows of the pattern. However, the basic ornament can be slightly modified.
If necessary, you can get a completely solid or, conversely, openwork "zigzag" crochet pattern. The pattern of a solid ornament will include the addition of CCH by knitting 2CCH from the 1st one at the peak (there is no VP in such a scheme). The reduction of CCH in the depressions will occur when 2CH is knitted with a common top.
Keep in mind that tight knitting requires more yarn. This technique is used to make coats, hats, warm sweaters and other products.
How to knit openwork ornament
The crochet zigzag pattern looks very interesting when replacing simple CCHs with 3 bushes.
In fact, the principle of ornament formation remains unchanged, but the holes become larger and clearer. Such canvases are suitable for the manufacture of summer dresses, skirts, tops, bags or interior items (bedspreads, rugs, pillows).
