Russian patterns and ornaments - symbolism

Russian folk patterns and ornaments are the guardians of deep archaic. They lead us deep into centuries, into pre-Christian Russia. These signs of antiquity can be found on embroidery, in jewelry that was worn, in the decoration of Russian huts and temples. As a rule, they had the value of amulets or they were given other significant differences.

Of particular importance was the design of roofs and windows as a vault of heaven. Since ancient times, they depicted the sun, horses, "abyss of heaven." Arched steeply neck and chest, on the most important, central log of the roof proudly towered a horse-bird, symbolizing the sun. In addition to it, there were other solar signs on the roof, which meant both sunset and sunrise.

On the ditches going down from two sides, the most frequent were wavy Russian patterns and ornaments, jets supplemented with small circles, which were supposed to depict raindrops. The pagans, who believed in Rod, believed that they were the cause of life on Earth and the expression of the creative energy of the deity carrying out fertilization.

The windows were decorated with wooden lace. It was a Russian patterns and ornaments consisting of signs of the sun, water, plant elements and stylized female figures. Linking the exterior and interior of the house, the window was decorated extremely elegantly.

By type, they can be divided into three parts. The first composition is solar, which continued to protect the house, begun by the roof.

The second had a gable cover, where the sun was also placed inside and, like on the roof, there were Russian patterns and ornaments in the form of abysses.

The third type of composition is different in that the cornice was even, that is, there was no firmament. In the center there was one figure surrounded by stylized beasts. You can explain their semantic meaning for a long time, but you should go to the next topic.

Headdress

His main idea is the image of the sky. On the headdress the sun was embroidered, birds looking up. Associated with its name. The word "coconut" comes from the word "coconut" - a rooster. The pendants to them, lacquered, are vertical stripes running from the kokoshnik to the chest or even to the waist. In metal (usually made of gold or silver) products, Russian patterns and ornaments in the form of birds are used that connect heaven and earth.

Ornaments ryasen is very stable: it is a theme of heaven and agricultural fertility. Heights of heaven are birds that are now on earth. The agrarian theme is also traced: all stylized phases of plant development (germinating seeds, pollinated herbs and flowers) were depicted.

Necklace and clothes

A necklace is a jewelry for the neck and chest, which archaeologists call "mane utensils." On the decorations there are signs of the sun, moon, animals and birds. It was all amulets.

The embroidery on the forearms of the sleeves and hips carried a very ancient meaning of the treated field: in the oblique square, divided into four parts, there was a grain sign - a dot. The hem of the clothes is decorated with embroidery, in which the idea of the earth dominates: patterns resembling grass, birds walking on the ground, flowers.

Thus, the Russian ornament and patterns date back to the agricultural Neolithic. Much has survived to the present time, however, to understand the inherent meanings, one should study the works of archaeologists, because they have rich material that allows it to be deciphered.
