Dolichos is a lianoid ornamental plant, which is also known as curly lilac, as well as hyacinth beans. In height, it grows by an average of three meters, however, there are specimens reaching a mark of ten meters. Pedicels brushes are strewn with flowers of different shades: violet, purple, bright red. Dolichos, whose seed cultivation is popular among gardeners, has a large number of bright green three-lobed leaves of a rather large size, which are located on a winding stalk. Inflorescences grow directly from their sinuses. Depending on the conditions created for the plant, the vegetative period of its growth can be from two and a half to seven months. Beginning in July and ending in the second half of September, dolichos blooms. Growing from seeds starts in March with sowing. The blooming of each of the flowers occurs gradually, and one individual inflorescence of the plant blooms on average for 20 days.
Landing
As already mentioned above, in March, you need to start planting dolichos. Seeds, or rather their shells, for better germination are slightly damaged beforehand (this is best done with sandpaper). Then they must be placed in cool clean water for a day, changing it several times during this time. After that, you can proceed directly to the planting of dolichos flowers. Growing from seeds at the first stage involves placing them in containers filled with soil to a depth of about 3 cm, with a further small powder on top. To ensure germination in the room, it is necessary to create a temperature regime of more than 20 degrees. Seedlings are watered every 10 days and in the month of May they move to conditions closer to natural conditions (on the veranda or balcony). Plant transplantation to a permanent place is carried out on average one and a half months after the emergence of sprouts and provided that all frosts have completely passed.
Care
Due to the fact that the plant loves heat very much, it is necessary to choose a place for it - windless, with soft and moist soil. After rooting, the seedlings will begin active growth, which must be directed. To do this, a group is tied to the support, and even better, each individual dolichos stem. Growing it in this way will allow you to form an original bush with a large volume, which in appearance resembles a lilac. Otherwise, the stem may rot and die. As for watering, the plant requires it at least several times a week. During the development, dolichos needs to be fed, which will ensure its early development and will extend the growing season.
Seeds for next year
The color of the beans in a yellowish color and the beginning of their drying are signs of the readiness of the seeds for collection. They are cut off and cleaned by hand, after which they are allowed to dry out a little. Then they are placed in a glass jar, which is tightly closed. This will prevent the ingress of moisture inside, resulting in the formation of mold on future dolichos flowers. Growing from seeds in this way can be done annually. Note that they contain many useful vitamins for humans and have very good taste qualities, which is why they are often used in food.
