Sewing a bedspread on a sofa with your own hands is not so difficult as it might seem at first glance. The most important thing is to make the right measurements and choose the fabric suitable for the general interior.
How to sew a blanket on a sofa with your own hands?
Here are some tips to help you sew a coverlet.
- The amount of fabric should be slightly larger than the size of the sofa, since a margin of about ten centimeters on each side is needed.
- Choose a fabric that does not slip, or make a lining. Otherwise, the bedspread will often fall off the couch.
- Decide in advance on which section the cover will be located - only on the sofa seat, on the seat and back, and maybe also on the armrests, if any.
- Better use a sewing machine. So less time will be spent on the process itself, and the seams will be more accurate and reliable.
- To give the thickness of the bedspread, make a layer of insulation (for example, from batting).
- Decorate the bedspread with a frill or stitches.
Simple bedspread
To make a simple blanket on the sofa with your own hands (for example, as in the picture below), you will need:
- a large flap of fabric of the required size (you can use a canvas with a bright print);
- wide tape;
- tailor scissors;
- pin needles;
- threads to match the fabric.

- Take your cloth flap and ribbon.
- Gently pin the tape to the material so that it covers it on both sides. It is also necessary to wrap a small piece of the edge of the tape (several millimeters) inside the gateway so that it does not spill during use.
- When you correctly draw the tape around the entire perimeter of the fabric, go to the stitch.
- Place the fabric with the ribbon face up on the foot of the sewing machine.
- Sew the fabric all the way around.

The tape can be replaced with a second layer of fabric, preferably if it is a fleece. Then the new flap should be a little larger than the first. The sewing pattern changes slightly.
- Put one piece of fabric on another so that the top is as if in the center of the bottom, that is, the last should peep out from all sides.
- Wrap the free edges of the bottom layer up and in.
- Baste, then stitch the fabric.

Patchwork bedspread
Patchwork is a fairly popular modern style in decor, implying the combination of several shreds with different colors and patterns into a single whole.
A patchwork-style bedspread will become not only a useful thing in the house, but also part of the interior decoration.
In order to sew such a wonderful thing, you will need not one piece of fabric, but several different square shreds. Usually, a set of five to ten pieces is used for sewing.
So, the order of work.
- Imagine what your veil should look like as a result. The pattern pattern is a little higher. The bedspread in a specific example, as can be seen, consists of six shreds laid out in a specific order, which form a diamond pattern.
- For ease of sewing, lay in front of you a patch of color in a stack, which put in the order of stitching.
- Start sewing shreds from 1 to 6 on the sewing machine in the prescribed manner.
- Complete the row by sticking to the pattern.
- Sew all rows separately.
- Now you can start stitching them together. Do not forget to check their order and relevance to the pattern.
- Since the cover is large, it will be more convenient to stitch it first one half, and then the second. Then sew everything together.
- Thus, the upper part is already ready for you.
- Take a large, one-piece flap of fabric that is slightly larger than the stitched top layer of the bedspread.
- You can use an additional layer of insulation.
- Stitch together the top patchwork layer and the bottom, as is the case with a simple bedspread.

Quilted quilt pattern
The bedspread can be decorated with a quilted pattern. No additional materials are required, and the result will be simply amazing.
Before you sew quilted bedspreads on the sofa (photo above), you need to sketch the pattern (for example, a rhombus). To do this, follow these steps.
- On a piece of paper, sketch the bedspreads with the intended scale pattern.
- Chalk the desired life-size pattern on the back of the fabric. Check to see if he lays well over the entire bedspread. If so, you can proceed to the final stitch.
To do this, sketch the pattern on the front side of the bedspread. Start making a pattern from the edge, not from the middle. Use large squares and rhombuses rather than small ones.
After you draw a pattern all over the bedspread, proceed with sewing on the sewing machine. In this business, one certainly cannot do without it. Make stitches neatly on the front of the bedspread along pre-defined lines.
Finally, remove the thread that you marked the pattern.
Rim on the bedspread

- Take the fabric of the required width. You can use either a new piece or scraps left over from sewing the bedspreads.
- Stitch the entire fabric on one side so that it does not sprinkle.
- Fold the section with a light accordion and start attaching it.
At the same time, if you want the frill to be visible, then place it on top, after tucking its edge inward. You can do either one or two lines. If you want to hide the frill, then attach it to the coverlet from the back.
Bedspread on a corner sofa
Sewing a blanket on an angular sofa is a bit more difficult than sewing on a regular one. Here you will need to take additional measurements and build a few details.
The order of work is as follows:
- Take measurements from two parts of a sofa.
- Sew first the covers on one part of it, and then on the other.
- When both halves are ready, sew them together on the back, slightly at an angle.
