Ceilings made of plastic panels every year are becoming increasingly popular. They have become an integral part of the concept of a modern and stylish interior of both residential and office premises.
Ceilings made of plastic panels have several important advantages at once:
- magnificent esthetic qualities;
- adequate cost of materials;
- ease of installation and subsequent maintenance of ceilings;
- lack of need for periodic repair or tinting;
- the possibility of implementing spot lighting and installing a variety of utilities under them;
- compatibility with heat and noise insulation materials;
- moisture resistance.
But, as you know, even the best material has its drawbacks. And ceilings made of plastic panels are no exception. For example, their mechanical strength leaves much to be desired - cracks and scratches can appear even as a result of a minor impact. In addition, plastic reacts very negatively to direct UV radiation.
Installation of ceilings from plastic panels
1. Frame construction
Without it, ceilings made of plastic panels cannot exist. The longevity and beauty depend on the quality of the frame. Therefore, this stage should be given maximum attention. The frame can be made of metal profiles or wooden blocks.
Wooden blocks | Metallic profile |
Arrange should be perpendicular to the direction of installation of the panels. | The plastic ceiling is located at a distance of 10-15 cm from the base. |
Depending on the presence of insulation, lighting systems, etc., the location step should be from 40 to 60 cm. | First of all, you need to fix the profile guides with holes drilled every 40 cm (diameter - 6 mm). The profile is applied to the wall so that it can also be drilled into the desired holes. |
The bars must be in the same plane (therefore, the base - the ceiling - must be perfectly flat). | Along the lines of the proposed installation of rack profiles, lines on the ceiling are beaten off. |
The bars are fixed using reliable fasteners (anchor bolts, dowels, etc.) and a punch. | According to the marks made, suspensions are installed (pitch - 0.6-0.8 m). The distance between adjacent bearing profiles is about 0.4-0.6 m. |
| Rack profiles are inserted into the guides, and then attached to the suspensions using metal screws. |
| To make the structure even, you should stretch the beating cord between the extreme points of the guide structures. |
| To improve sound insulation in places where the profile touches the wall, use a foam or foam pad. |
2. Sheathing
Installation of the ceiling from plastic panels consists of two stages. The first is the installation of the frame. And the second one is the sheathing of the frame itself with plastic panels. The first panel should be directed by the crest towards the wall. Next, the edge of each panel is installed in the groove of the previous one. They are attached to the frame using self-tapping screws. It is important to locate the fasteners exclusively in the mounting strips of the panels. After the main work is completed, it remains only to install a decorative frieze with glue in those places where the panels adjoin the walls.
