Green, red and black grapes have not been considered a rarity for a long time and are successfully grown by professionals and amateurs. The pink varieties, to which the Original grapes belong, are not so widespread, however, recently they have been in high demand. What is this variety? What are its differences and main features? We will try to tell about this in the article.
Origin and description of the variety
Pink table grapes The original, photo of which is presented below, was bred by Ukrainian breeders by crossing two parental forms: Damascus rose and Datier de Saint-valier. The variety inherited from them a large size of ovoid or nipple berries, the mass of which reaches 5-7 g. Grapes Grape variety Original forms large. Under good growing conditions, they can reach one and a half kilograms, but in most cases their weight is 500-700 g.
The appearance of the berries is very beautiful: white or slightly pinkish skin is covered with a weak tan from the sunny side. The fruit pulp is translucent, very sweet, contains about 20% sugar and a small amount of acid - not more than 5 g / l. Original grapes are used for fresh consumption. Also, it produces excellent taste products (stewed fruit, jelly and wine).
The bush is overgrown, the ripening of shoots even in adverse climatic conditions is good. Up to 1.7 bunches of grapes can form and successfully ripen on each shoot. The period from the beginning of budding to the collection of the first fruits is about 140-150 days.
Features of grape Original
Unlike most varieties, Original grapes , the description of which was given earlier, tolerates winter cold up to 22 degrees and the next year gives a good harvest. That is why this variety is widespread not only in the southern regions of Ukraine, but also in most regions of Russia. At the same time, it is recommended to cover it nevertheless. Among the main advantages of the variety are its high resistance to fungal diseases.
Fans prefer to grow the Original grape variety because it has a bisexual flower. This means that for successful fruiting there is no need to grow other grape varieties near it. In addition, high productivity allows you to grow only one plant on the site to provide a small family with fresh berries and harvests from them.
Despite the advantages listed above, Original grapes have several disadvantages. For example, bunches of this variety do not tolerate transportation very well. The berries are easily separated from the stalks, so even with a short shaking the bunches remain almost completely bare.
The subtleties of growing
You can plant grapes in both spring and autumn. Grapes do not like draft, but he does not tolerate stagnation of air. The place where the vine grows should be in the sun for a long time, so it is better to plant grapes on the south or southwest side of the site.
In order to get the optimum yield from one plant, the Original grapes must be formed in the same way as other varieties, leaving up to 40 eyes on one bush. During the growth of the vine and the setting of fruiting formations, it is necessary to carefully monitor the stepsons and remove them completely. They take a significant amount of nutrients from the upstream shoots, causing the cluster to clump.
Adverse weather conditions during flowering also contribute to fruit chopping. To avoid this, experienced growers conduct timely processing of vines with drugs that enhance the natural immunity of the plant. During the ripening of the bunch, you can cut off most of the leaves on the vine. This will allow the grape fruit to ripen quickly and evenly and acquire a characteristic pink tan. The formation of the bush is also given special attention, because the yield of the plant depends on this. It is necessary to remove up to 12 eyes on each shoot.
Breeding methods
Like other varieties, Original grapes can be propagated by cuttings and grafting. Each method has advantages and disadvantages. For example, young seedlings take root better in milder climatic conditions. If the average annual temperatures are low, lingering rains and late frosts often occur, it is best to vaccinate the grafts of this variety on the stock of grapes adapted to such conditions. Fans of growing the vine from scratch will like seed propagation. In this case, the plant will be absolutely healthy, but the harvest will have to wait 5 years longer than when planted with cuttings or inoculation.
