Krasnovishersk (Perm Territory) is a small town located in the north-eastern part of the region.
City on the edge
Krasnovishersk (Perm Territory) in Soviet times was a small but promising town. A pulp and paper mill worked in it, diamonds and oil were mined, and many other industries worked. Unfortunately, now all large enterprises are declared bankrupt. There are no jobs in the city at large enterprises. The city of Krasnovishersk (Perm Territory) is included in the federal program for the development of single-industry towns in Russia.
The development of ecotourism has breathed a new stream into the life of the city. Here tourists from all over the region come to rest in Krasnovishersk (Perm Territory).
History of the city
From ancient times, people settled in this part of the Perm Territory. On the site of the city in the XIX century was the village of Vizhaikha. Rich iron ore deposits were discovered nearby. In 1894-97, the Russian-French joint-stock company built a metallurgical plant here. But ore deposits were quickly depleted, and the plant was closed.
With the advent of Soviet power in this area, it was decided to build a pulp and paper mill. Moreover, there was everything needed for production: both forest and river. They were built by prisoners who were serving time in the 4th branch of the Solovetsky camp, which was opened here in 1926. And in 1929 the camp was renamed Vishersky and became a separate unit.
On July 2, 1942, Krasnovishersk officially received city status. Now about 17 thousand people live here.
City attractions
Despite its modest size, the town has several attractions that are worth a look at a visiting tourist.
Monument to the writer Varlam Shalamov, located in the city center. The disgraced writer was serving his first term in these places. They are described in his famous novel Vishera. The terrible events that are narrated in the novel are still not forgotten by the inhabitants of the city. There is currently no trace left of the camp. The monument is a plaque on a stone. It was installed in 2007 on the 100th anniversary of the writer.
Ethnopark "Vishera Port" is located in the open air in a city park. Here visitors can see the real Russian and Komi-Yazvinsky huts. Komi Yazvintsy is a small nation of Russia, the number of which does not exceed two thousand people, and by state standards it is not a separate ethnic group. Only in Krasnovishersk can you get acquainted with the culture and life of this nation. Local museum activists recreate the real Russian boat in a sign that in ancient times Vishera was the way to Siberia.
The fountain "Vetlan, Polud and Vishera" was opened not so long ago. It is a sculptural composition of two male and female figures. The fountain embodied an ancient legend, without which no old town can do. According to legend, two heroes lived in these parts - Polyud and Vetlan, who were best friends, until they met the beautiful Vishera. Both fell in love with the girl, but only she could not choose any one. The match of equal strength athletes did not give a result, and they froze in stone. And Vishera rushed between them from grief and longing and turned into a river. Since then, a stormy river has flowed between two huge stones, and on the shore near that place is Krasnovishersk. Perm region is rich in legends and traditions.
