Foamiran is a ductile and malleable material that visually resembles suede, which includes venyl acetate. It feels thin rubber to the touch. Due to the fact that it stretches easily and holds its shape well, it is most often used to create flowers. They turn out to be very realistic, gentle, so the material is also called "plastic suede".
Material Features
Foamiran is environmentally friendly, it is easy to cut, it can be washed and painted with acrylic. It is often used to create children's products: soft puzzles, books, toys and rugs. Plastic suede blanks are fastened to each other using a conventional glue gun. Products do not absorb water, quickly restore shape when crushed and soften under the influence of heat. The material can be used to create interior dolls.
Dolls from foamiran: a master class for beginners
The master class will be dedicated to making a simple toy for a girl. A blank Christmas ball with a cut top can become a blank for the doll’s head. It is advisable to take plastic, not glass, or replace it with a foam ball with a diameter of 5 cm. We will heat the material with an iron. You can take different patterns for a doll from foamiran.
The following tools and materials need to be prepared for the master class:
- several sheets of plastic suede in different colors;
- steel manicure scissors with good sharpening;
- officer line;
- pencil;
- pen;
- synthetic brush;
- acrylic paints;
- bamboo stick;
- wire;
- oil pastel;
- cotton buds or a foam sponge;
- chopsticks for sushi;
- patterns for hair, dresses, arms and legs.
How to make a head for a doll
We start the master class on dolls from foamiran with making a head. We need a sheet of flesh-colored plastic suede measuring 9 x 9 cm for the doll’s face and another, but darker shade, for the back of the head. From dark material we will do a hairdress later. Hair color is chosen to your taste.
We begin to form the material:
- We put it on the heated platform, smooth it and pull it onto the workpiece. You can determine the desired temperature with your finger - the iron should not burn.
- First we make the front of the head, then the occipital. We cut two hemispheres from the resulting blanks and apply them to the ball, checking how smooth the edge is.
- If everything is in order, glue the halves to the ball with a glue gun. To prevent the cobwebs from glue sticks, they can be held in the refrigerator beforehand.
- Then we cut out a strip of flesh-colored plastic suede and close the seam with it.
Doll face and makeup
When the blanks are seized, draw the eyes. You can use a photo of a doll from foamiran, already ready, for the master class, and redraw her eyes. First, draw a pencil around the outline, then a pen. We help ourselves with an officer line. Then draw the eyes with acrylic paint. Do not forget about the glare to indicate the direction of view. They are easier to apply with a bamboo stick. After the paint dries, we draw the rest of the details - nose, smile. Dry pastel, using a cotton swab, apply a blush on the cheeks of the doll. We draw freckles with a bamboo stick. The next step in our master class on dolls from foamiran will be the creation of a hairstyle.
We make out the head
Cut the bangs of the same color as the back of the head according to the template. We make two rectangular blanks for the tails: we make parallel cuts, creating strands. Now you need to wind them, heating the material on the iron, and curl the curls with a wooden stick. Turn the rectangle to make a tail. Glue the bangs and ponytails to the head. You can do just curly hair or another hairstyle. It is important to prevent traces of glue from appearing on the workpiece. We continue the master class on dolls from foamiran: now we will do the torso.
Body and dress
For the body, you need to cut out a cone-shaped blank from foam and fit it with plastic suede of a light, flesh-colored shade. According to the pattern, we cut out the petticoat from this piece and glue it to the workpiece. Now we take a skirt pattern and cut two or three details from it in foamiran of the desired color. We make a hole in the middle and pull the blanks onto the doll's body. Fix in place with glue. On the edge of the skirt, you can apply a pattern with acrylic paint. Cut the upper part of the dress according to the pattern and glue it to the body. We make a belt of plastic suede in a contrasting color.
Arms and wings
Hands are cut according to the template from the material of flesh-colored, for them two rectangular pieces of foamiran to match the dress and wire are required:
- We take the inner part of the sleeve, put the wire in the center and glue it. We insert the blank of the palm of flesh-colored.
- From above we wrap the second part of the sleeve and form it in the form of a bell. We glue.
- Repeat for the second hand.
- Glue the dolls to the body.
You can turn an ordinary doll into a fairy. To do this, cut out the wings according to the template and color them with acrylic. The edges are tinted with pastel and fixed on the body with glue.
We make legs and collect the toy
At the final stage of the master class on dolls from foamiran, we will make legs, and then assemble the toy:
- For shoes, you need an egg-shaped foam blank, which we divide into two identical halves. Plastic suede is pulled on them. The edges are cropped. Glue the sheet to the foam.
- We make the legs from sticks for sushi: we tighten them 2/3 with flesh-colored material and glue it, leaving part of the stick for connection with the foot.
- For golfiki, we cut out a square of the same color as the inner part of the sleeve, make one edge serrated and fix on the lower part of the leg, rolling the stick to make it smooth.
- The lower part of the sock, at the place of attachment with boots, needs to be trimmed a little.
- We connect the body, head, shoes and legs with glue. The dress can be decorated with buttons, beads, beads, and shoes with bows.
