Plum is one of the most beloved and respected fruit crops by our gardeners. In many ways, this attitude to it has developed both due to the taste qualities of the fruits, and due to the universality of their application.
But you can get a good harvest only if you fully comply with agricultural technology. This is especially due to the planting of this tree.
The plum tree itself, planting in the autumn of which is not too often practiced by gardeners, will be fruitful only if you have a good experience of growing it. "Gurus" even prefer to plant it only in the spring. The fact is that seedlings often do not have time to acclimatize normally, and therefore they freeze out. But if such a need arose, the autumn landing is very real.
Note that there is no need to prepare a pit for this in a month or two. It is necessary to dig out a seat in one to two weeks, and this must be done at the end of August.
And the colder it is in your area, the faster you need to be. The diameter and depth are approximately equal 0.6x0.6 m. Having taken out the soil, it should be thoroughly mixed with high-quality humus, and then re-fill the hole with this composition.
Please note that the plum, landing in the autumn of which we are considering, is quite whimsical to the quality of the soil. Therefore, pay special attention to the selection of quality humus.
After that, the landing peg is driven exactly into the center of the pit. Then you can proceed with the landing. Sapling necessarily located on the north side of the stick. It is better to sprinkle the earth with your hands, making sure that the soil tightly covers all the voids between the roots. The root neck should be 5-7 cm above the surface of the soil. Since the plum, planting in the fall of which is the lot of experienced gardeners, is very sensitive to agricultural technology (as we have already talked about), this distance should be maintained as strictly as possible.
After completion of planting in the soil, the seedling should be watered as abundantly as possible, and the soil surface near it should be mulched, using peat or the same humus for this purpose.
Here are a couple of points that need to be paid increased attention.
Firstly, you should never lay any mineral fertilizers in the planting hole itself, since the reaction of the tree may turn out to be unpredictable. In particular, such a planting of plums in autumn is fraught with the fact that you simply burn the entire root system. The fact is that the vegetation processes at this time are very weak, and therefore the tree is simply not able to fully use the nutrients.
If you do not know where the growth point we mentioned is located, then try not to at least bury the seedling heavily in the ground. Such a planting is much more harmful for plums, since there is severe decay of the cortical layer, which leads to the death of the tree.
Keep in mind that planting a yellow plum in the form of tall forms involves tying it to a planting peg for a couple of years. In this case, a distance of at least 15 cm should remain between it and the seedling trunk.
Of course, for fastening it is necessary to use only soft and well stretchable materials. The wire can not be used in any case, since it just cuts the bark. That is why for a couple of years periodically check if the twine has crashed into the wood.
This is how the plum roots. Planting this crop in the fall is quite troublesome, but quite feasible.
