The most popular and rich in vitamins culture has always been and is currants. Not only fresh currant berries are useful, but also jam, jelly, juices, jams. It has a healing effect on older people, especially those weakened after surgery, with bronchitis, cough, and decreased hemoglobin. An infusion of currant leaves has a good diuretic property. It is also recommended for people suffering from urolithiasis, rheumatism, a disease of the bladder, kidneys. The useful properties of currants can be listed indefinitely.
Redcurrant, planting and care for which require special attention, is best established in the fall. Although the bushes can be planted in the spring, only very early, while the buds have not yet appeared.
If the currant is planted correctly, planting and care are carried out properly, this will not slow down its yield. The distance between the bushes is maintained from about one and a half to two meters. In this situation, the bushes will be well lit, sufficiently ventilated and less exposed to pests.
Before planting bushes, you need to prepare in advance a landing pit up to forty-five centimeters deep. A bucket of humus is poured into it and must be mixed with the ground, otherwise the roots simply burn out. The main neck of the bush is deepened by five centimeters. In this case, additional roots are formed, and the bush becomes more dense. Then you need to carefully compact the soil and water it abundantly. Currants, planting and care for it include cutting all the shoots. Above ground you need to leave only two kidneys. However, all this is done for the benefit of the plant and contributes to a stronger development of the root system and new, larger and branched shoots.
Care for currants in the spring consists, first of all, in a good loosening of the soil near the bush, removal of excess garbage. It is also necessary to cut dry branches without fail. Under the rickety branches, you can make fortifications from below, so that they grow straight.
You can tell those who are most interested in red and white currants - planting and caring for them are basically the same: pruning, adequate watering, weed control. It is very necessary to moisten the soil at a time when the berries begin to form and ripen. You also need to destroy all the weeds around the bush, otherwise all moisture is absorbed by them.
Compliance with all recommendations for the care of seedlings and regular feeding with fertilizers contributes to a good harvest.
Blackcurrant, planting and care of which require increased attention, may not please with abundant fruiting if the corresponding requirements are not met.
It is advisable to plant two-year-old seedlings for planting. They have the most developed root system. Before planting, be sure to ensure that the roots are constantly in a wet state. To do this, they, together with a small amount of moist earth, must be wrapped in plastic wrap.
The optimal landing period is from mid-September to the first decade of October. Wet and acidic soils are not recommended for blackcurrant.
When planting a seedling, certain requirements must be observed. You need to plant it a little deeper and at an angle so that part of the branches enter the ground. From the buds that are found underground, young shoots will go, and the bush will be more voluminous. Next year, one or two branches can be bent and dug up with earth. The bush will be even more branched. Around the pit after landing, small earthen bumpers are made. This is necessary so that water does not flow during irrigation. And you need to water abundantly, about one bucket of water per seedling. After absorbing water, moist soil should be sprinkled on top with dry soil to reduce evaporation. In autumn, you can get by with one watering, but in dry weather it must be repeated. And in the spring two or three irrigation must be done without fail. If all the requirements are met, you can count on a good harvest not only for one year, but also for the next few years.
