Knits at the peak of popularity. Now they are worn not only by children whose grandmothers know how to knit, but also by many models or celebrities. Designers like to complement knitted or leather products with knitted elements. Therefore, the connection of knitted parts is an important issue that sooner or later confronts every craftswoman. Without this, it is impossible to knit a dress or sweater. Yes, and there are many ways to connect. However, they are mainly used by several.
What can I knit with?
Knitting is the creation of a product with the help of threads, ribbons or rags, using knitting needles, hooks or other devices. Basically, knitting is divided into two types:
Of course, there is also machine knitting or the manufacture of products using bobbins, but they are less popular, and not everyone knows about them. But the connection of knitted details is necessary for any of the types of this variety of needlework.
The connection itself can be made using a thread of the same color and thickness as that used in the product. However, sometimes contrasting colors are also used if it harmoniously fits into the design of a thing. Also, for some hidden seams, threads can be taken one size thinner than the main ones.
What needs to be done before stitching the product?
Before proceeding directly to the connection of the parts of the product, they should undergo a number of procedures. For example, all the details should be smoothed out, put a thin cotton material on them, and already go over the iron with it. This allows you to see the exact size of the part, and also gives the pattern a better look.
By the way, you should carefully read the information on the yarn label. Some types of threads may get hooked due to steam treatment, so in this case iron only with a cold iron. Otherwise, there is a risk of damage to the product.
It is also worth carefully measuring the finished parts of the knitwear, hide the seams or protruding threads, if any. It is best to carry out all of the above procedures on parts mounted on cardboard or fabric using pins. It also helps not to miss anything.
Types of seams for joining
The connection of knitted parts can be carried out using various improvised means. These include:
- sewing needles - their size is determined based on the thickness of the yarn;
- crochet hooks;
- knitting needles.
Using all of these handicraft tools, you can combine disparate parts into a single product. However, the seams in this case will be different.
Seams are made with different tools and, accordingly, have different names. For example, a popular combination of crocheted knit parts is the chain stitch. Many seams are made with the needle, and with the needles, the shoulder.
Crochet knitting
The tambour seam, as already mentioned, is one of the most popular among craftswomen who are accustomed to manufacturing products with the help of a hook.
For this, the parts of the product that need to be fastened are folded together, with the face of one part facing the same side of the other. After that, both parts are hooked and the thread is displayed. Then begins tying the columns without a crochet. In this case, the thread should be tightened so that there are no gaps. But it is also worth watching that the part is not collected, but free, does not change its original size.
Shoulder stitch: use of knitting needles
One of the popular seams that allows knitting parts to be knitted with needles is the shoulder. This seam is liked by the craftswomen, because it provides a flat edge of the product. It is also durable.
In order to proceed with the connection of parts using knitting needles, it is necessary to knit two more additional rows. And you can use a thread of cotton, a contrasting color. This will not affect product quality. Then all the loops are removed from the spokes, and the product itself is neatly ironed.
One of the additional rows is dissolved. In the second, they simply remove one loop at a time, while fastening the vacant place with a knitted seam. The advantage of such a connection of parts of a knitted product is that the main loops are not deformed.
Knitted stitch is the main favorite of many
But most craftswomen still use sewing needles to connect the edges of the product. This type of seam can be divided into two groups - vertical and horizontal.
The connection of knitted parts with a knitted seam begins with the fact that the upper loops of the row are left open. The needle is inserted into the first loop of the row from top to bottom. The output is made to the next loop of the same product, but from the bottom up. The same operation is performed with the second half of the product. So complete the connection of the entire series. With this design, the seam remains invisible. It is as if hidden inside a product.
There is also an option in which the knit stitch is performed on the product with closed loops. A thread of the same color and texture is used as in the product itself. The whole procedure is performed in the same way as when connecting parts with an open row. However, here they take a blunt needle and insert it into the canvas itself, trying to get into the loop.
Also sometimes called a knit seam connecting. It is considered one of the simplest. It is often used for lateral connection. In this case, the needle is inserted into the edge loops of both products at once, and then with small stitches they are connected at the edges of the product. Tighten the thread should be tight enough. If you make a connecting seam on the front side, you can adjust the coincidence of color or pattern on both parts of the product. However, from the wrong side, such a seam looks neater and less noticeable.
