Peacekeepers do not always act in truth. However, this applies to each of us. This fact was also noticed by Anton Chekhov. "Chameleon" is the story of just such opinion-changing individuals. People who adapt to circumstances do not act as reasonably as they think. From the outside, this behavior looks ridiculous and absurd. The author makes fun of the inability to defend his opinion and the desire to please dignitaries. Initially, such a trait is in every person, just some manage to get rid of it, while others continue to live in fear that others will think about them.
Chekhov's story "Chameleon" takes the reader to the market. Guardian of urban order Ochumelov important walks between people and carefully monitors their every movement. Citizens are bored weaving about their business. Nothing interesting, if not for the sudden cries of a man who was allegedly bitten by a dog. Master Khryukin proudly shows the crowd his injured finger, scandal and demanding justice. Police officer Ochumelov happily intervenes and decides: to find the owner of the dog and write off the fine from him, and immediately destroy the animal. City Eldirin fully agrees with him and begins to draw up a protocol.

It is not strange that such a creation was written precisely by the lover of irony Chekhov. "Chameleon" is a humorous story that raises important social problems that are relevant today. Police Ochumelov acts as a negative hero, funny and miserable. He is the very chameleon that changes color depending on the situation. He loudly speaks out against the dog and its owner only until the moment when someone from the crowd reports that the puppy is general. Doubts begin to overcome the confidence of the guardian of order. He instantly becomes hot from his own fear. The coat is a symbol of excitement and cowardice, toadness of the hero.
As the genius writer Anton Chekhov intended, Chameleon aroused interest among readers. This literary work is still considered a classic of the genre. They read the story, laugh at the main characters, draw conclusions for themselves. The climax, the most intense moment of the work, comes when another character enters the scene. General Chef Prokhor confirms that his owner has never had such dogs.
I did not forget to make Chekhov's denouement interesting. "Chameleon" is a boring story. The plot here is quite simple, but keeps the reader's attention to the very end. Police officer Ochumelov is pleased with himself and his big words. However, the denouement is extremely unexpected. According to the cook, the puppy belongs to the brother of General Zhigalov. Seven sweats came off Ochumelov’s forehead, who, with a sneaky smile, gave the dog to Prokhor. Nobody even remembered the victim. He was ordered to keep silent and hide away such a minor wound.
Anton Chekhov wrote "The Chameleon", a brief summary of which was disclosed above, in the hope of conveying to the human mind the idea that sucking puts a person in a ridiculous position. Achieving recognition in this way is unlikely to succeed, but respect will be lost forever. The police officer Ochumelov wanted to show his power, as a result he became a real laughing stock for the whole city.
