In the light of the constant rise in price of real estate and building materials, everyone who wants to build their own house is forced to look for a cheap and high-quality alternative to brick. In particular, many novice builders believe that under such a cottage you can lay an easy foundation. Despite the low weight of this material, this should not be done. The fact is that the gas silicate block is a material that has extremely low bending strength, and therefore the use of a light columnar foundation can lead to cracking. And therefore, a house of gas silicate blocks should not be built on a cheap basis.
The most versatile and reliable option will be a reinforced foundation slab. It will be cheaper to use a simple strip foundation mounted on a pillow of coarse river sand. If money is enough only for a columnar foundation, then it should be tied with a massive reinforced concrete belt. However, it's time to talk about how to build a house from gas silicate blocks. Please note that this material is highly hygroscopic, and therefore in no case should it be placed close to the ground.
In order to avoid unpleasant consequences, you can do two ways:
- The easiest way is to fill the foundation itself so that its base is above ground level.
- If it is initially flooded at ground level, then you have to lay out the basement of high-quality brick. The first row of blocks should be placed at least half a meter from the ground.
First waterproofing is done. So, for this, roofing material in two or three layers is laid on the first row of the foundation. The first row is laid out using a conventional sand-cement mortar. It is very important at this moment not to be mistaken, having done everything as accurately as possible. Please note that the blocks should be laid as evenly as possible so that the whole house of gas silicate blocks in the future does not squint.
First lay the corner blocks. By installing a laser pointer or using the "grandfather" cord for this purpose, we lay on it all the remaining blocks. All seams in the first row should be filled with special glue. To make the blocks stand as even as possible, they should be corrected with a rubber mallet.
If, due to your carelessness or poor quality of the material, irregularities have formed on the top of the row, then use a special plane to eliminate them. This must be done, as we have already said that, due to differences, the blocks of subsequent rows will simply crack, making the house of gas silicate blocks not very attractive in appearance.
All subsequent rows are laid out only on special glue. Note that for its ideal homogeneous consistency it is necessary to use a special nozzle on the drill, since it is practically impossible to do this manually. Glue must be applied using a special notched trowel. Before applying the adhesive, be sure to remove the dirt from the blocks, sweeping them with a whisk. We strongly advise against using sand-cement mortar. Firstly, the thickness of the seams in this case will exceed 10 mm. The thermal conductivity of the material increases sharply, and due to the absorption of moisture, it will quickly deteriorate in the winter.
