Fragrant cherry, which is also called Magaleb, or antipka, is a rather interesting plant, completely unlike other varieties. Her leaves are somewhat reminiscent of pear - broad-egg and spiky. Differ in glossy gloss. This is a very large shrub or even a tree. Usually the antipka reaches a height of about 7 meters, but sometimes there are specimens growing up to 12 m.
Corollas on such a shrub as Magaleb cherry are quite ordinary - white, with a diameter of about 1.5 cm. In the brush there can be from 5 to 14. Although the plant is rather southern, flowering begins quite late - in late May, in June. The berries of this tree are almost black and not too tasty - they are somewhat bitter and are rarely used for food. More often their juice is used for tinting wines and soft drinks. In addition, it is perfect for the manufacture of fragrant liquids used in the cosmetics industry. Ripening occurs in July or August. They are also not too ordinary - more like
berries of a bird cherry.Fragrant cherry found another interesting application. Her wood smells unusually good. Hence its name. Various small objects are made from the trunks and branches of this plant - mouthpieces, smoking pipes, canes, etc. In addition, this wonderful tree is also used as a decorative one.
Very often, fragrant cherries are planted in parks and squares, along paths, as hedges. The pleasant smell of flowers and beautiful glossy leaves serve as a wonderful decoration for courtyards, suburban areas and city streets.
Fragrant cherry grows mainly in the southern regions - in Ukraine, the Caucasus, Moldova, Crimea, and Central Asia. He feels quite well both in the lowland zones and in the mountains (it can rise up to 2000 m above sea level). However, still the plant is steppe and loves chernozem soils. On acidic it develops poorly.
In our country, it is most often used as a stock for other varieties of cherries and cherries. Seedlings grown in this way look very strong, have a developed root system.
However, as mentioned above, fragrant cherry is still a southern plant. Although it develops in the middle lane and can quite successfully, as a stock it is best used in warmer regions. As for the Non-Black Earth Region, here it is worth using local, regionalized varieties for vaccination.
Cherry - a tasty and healthy berry. This plant is unpretentious, very simple to care for. All that is needed is to plant a seedling in the ground and water it from time to time. For 2-3 years after planting, it will be possible to harvest already. The only problem this shrub sometimes gives to the owner of the plot is overgrowth of the overgrowth. The fact that Magaleb cherry is completely devoid of this drawback also makes it an excellent material for vaccinating other varieties.
The reproduction of this plant does not occur like in other cherries. She does not give shoots at all. In order to grow a new bush, only seeds are used. The cold winters of the middle lane may not be tolerated. However, in the south it is considered a completely winter-hardy plant, as it never freezes, even if severe cooling occurs.
