Our entire civilization is built on electricity, and its "conductors" - sockets and switches - are in almost every apartment. Their initial location in the apartment is not for everyone, so it will not be out of place to find out exactly how the installation of outlets with your own hands is carried out.
In fact, as you will soon see for yourself, there is nothing super complicated in this work, the main thing is accuracy and observance of safety measures.
The first rule, which must not only be remembered, but memorized by heart - never install outlets and switches when wiring is connected! Before starting work, it is necessary to cut off electricity in the apartment!
Choose the place where you will install the outlets. Ideally, they should be located as close as possible to the electrical appliances that you intend to include in them. If you plan to install external sockets, then you will not have to do any additional work, but installing internal sockets will require additional tools and efforts.
You will need:
- drill and crown of the desired diameter;
- screwdrivers (flat, cross and tester);
- knife;
- pencil;
- socket and box for her.
Mark on the wall the place where you plan to
install the outlets in drywall, attach the installation box to it and circle its outline with a pencil. If you don’t have a drill with a suitable diameter crown on your hand, cut a circle with a knife. It will not be difficult to do this, since drywall is a fairly soft material.
Pull the wire into the box and insert it into the slotted hole. Then use screws to secure it to the wall. She should sit tight in the place intended for her and not “play”, otherwise the outlet will loose and subsequently fall out of the wall.
The bulk of the work is done. Now it remains only to connect the wires. Turn off the electricity. You can do this either from the corridor, if your meter is installed there, or directly from the apartment. If the counter is still an old model, then just unscrew the plugs, and in a new one, just throw the toggle switch. Before starting the connection, be sure to check the current in the network with a tester screwdriver.
With two wires, no problems should arise. You simply strip them with insulation with a knife and connect them to any terminals. But if you need to connect three wires, then you need to be careful, since one of them is "ground". It is best to strip the wires by five centimeters, strip the strands with a ring and put them directly on the terminals. Such a connection is considered more reliable, in addition, due to the larger contact area, the wires will be less heated.
Insert the already connected outlet into the box and tighten the side tabs with a screwdriver. They must securely lock it in the box. Correct the location of the outlet so that it is level in the wall, fasten the front panel, and you can consider the installation completed.
Now you can safely turn on the light in the apartment and connect the necessary electrical appliances to the outlet. As you can see, the installation of outlets does not require any special knowledge and skills, and anyone can do it.
