A bit of history

Smolny Park was created in 1995 at the initiative of the Russian government. The main goal of the foundation is to preserve the natural landscape, which is becoming smaller every year. After all, the development of forest areas is proceeding with astonishing speed, and soon a situation may arise when there will be no forests at all. Smolny Park in Mordovia plays not only an ecological, but also an aesthetic function, and is also designed for visiting tourists. Here you can get acquainted with the flora and fauna of the Republic, take a walk in the forest and usefully spend a weekend in nature.

In 2017, the park passes under the management of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Reserved Mordovia”. Since that time, the logo has changed. Now the emblem of the park is stylized birds. Capercaillie are located on two sides of the flag, which is made in the traditional Mordovian style. The color scheme is plain. Not surprisingly, the color red was chosen for her. Very symbolic and, most importantly, the logo unobtrusively hints at the problem of preserving the conservation area.

Park now

Currently, the territory from the left bank of the Alatyr River is considered protected. Smolny Park is more than 36 thousand hectares of forest. All this massif is included in the recreation, where, through the efforts of foresters, unique trees of the forest-steppe zone are preserved. The forests here are amazing: birch trees are adjacent to firs, oaks and maples. But not the entire area of the park is occupied by trees. There are meadows, and two types: floodplain and land. You can take a walk in the marshland.

Fauna

The animals in the park are also diverse. There are more than 50 species of mammals alone. But even in the park there are birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and even mollusks. Of course, most of them are widespread both throughout Mordovia and in Russia. The main representatives of mammals are moose, beavers, wild boars and martens. You can even find rare animals such as desman, which are listed in the Red Book.

What to see

The administration of the park, even during its organization, set one of its main goals to attract tourists. Therefore, it is not surprising that now in Smolny there are all conditions for a comfortable stay. On the territory of the park there is a sanatorium where both visiting guests and our compatriots can relax. After all, there is no better doctor than clean air and the calm atmosphere of the forest. Tourists who come for the weekend can stay at summer camps. And for those who ended up in Smolny passage, there are places of rest. Here on the equipped sites you can fry kebabs or sausages and have a good time with friends.
