Knitted hats have always been popular due to their versatility and convenience. Because of the simplicity of execution, many knitters began their training precisely with knitting hats and scarves, but even the most experienced craftsmen find interesting models for themselves that are prompted by a changeable fashion.
A wide variety of patterns are used for hats - it can be a jacquard with Norwegian stars, Irish braids and arana, or one of the many gum options. Today we will learn how to associate a hat with a pompom, leaving the choice of design up to you.
What to consider when choosing yarn for a hat? Regardless of whether it will be winter or demi-season, the thread from which the cap with the pompom is knitted should have elasticity, allowing the finished product to fit its head tightly, but not cause inconvenience. Therefore, we will leave cotton for panama and berets, and pay attention to half-woolen threads. Unlike acrylic, such yarn does not stretch and does not peel with prolonged wear.
Sample:
Type 20 stitches on the knitting needles and knit five to eight rows with a 2x2 elastic band. Measure the resulting sample with a ruler and determine how many loops a hat with a pompon of the right size will require. As a rule, this is 120 loops for yarn of medium thickness, plus 2 edge loops when knitting on two knitting needles.
Beginning of work:
Now we can collect the required number of loops and knit with a rubber band a lapel 6 - 8 cm wide. The elastic band report can be different: 3x2 or 1x1, according to your taste.
Once the lapel is ready, let's move on to knitting a pattern. An elegant hat with a pompon will turn out if you tie it with braids. The number of loops for such a pattern should be a multiple of 10. When our hat with a pompom reaches the desired size (20 - 25 cm, depending on desire), it is necessary to remove the loops from the knitting needle to the needle with a strong thread, tighten and tie the thread. If the product was knitted on 2 knitting needles, it remains to connect the seam with chain stitches and make a pompom.
Making a pompom:
On any piece of cardboard we draw 2 circles, the inner diameter is 2 - 3 cm, the outer one is the desired size of the pompom. We cut the “bagel” and make a loop from a strong thread around the inside, with it we will tie a ready-made pompom. We wrap the workpiece in a yarn-colored hat or several selected shades so that the thread lies on top of the loop. Once, in your opinion, a sufficient number of rows is wound, cut the thread and tie the loop as tight as possible, fixing the pompom. It remains to cut the yarn along the outer edge of the workpiece and remove the cardboard. Our pompom is ready, and with the end of the fixing thread it can be sewn to the cap.
