To visit Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower - a realized miracle of engineering - is simply impossible. This is one of the most visited places in the French capital, although the construction appeared recently, when compared with such "competitors" as the Louvre or Notre Dame. On which street the Eiffel Tower is located, any Parisian knows, and most tourists already remember this address.
The design was invented by two engineers: Maurice Kekhlin and Emil Nuzhier, who presented their project to Gustave Eiffel. He was impressed by the appearance of the tower, as well as its 300-meter height. Gustave liked the project, and in 1984 he acquired it without even knowing why it was useful to him. And in 1887, a competition was announced dedicated to the development of the steel industry, where the project presented by Eiffel won, ahead of more than 100 competitors.
As a result, the Eiffel Tower, whose address was determined in 1889, began to be actively built. The best specialists were involved in the construction. And already at the installation stage, which was completed in record time, the first photos of the Eiffel Tower appeared in history. The construction was not liked by many residents of the city, and a public group, which included, including artists, got the promise from the authorities to disassemble it immediately after the World Exhibition.
The tower was officially opened in May 1889. A little later elevators were put into operation, and Paris was flooded with tourists from all over Europe who wanted to see the huge structure erected despite numerous protests. Many did not know which street the Eiffel Tower is on, but it was not difficult to find it: it is the tallest building in the city, it can be seen from everywhere.
The world exhibition has come to an end, it's time to part with the building that caused such a sensation. However, Eiffel did not want this. His financial condition allowed him to do a lot, and he rented a piece of land on which his brainchild was erected, so that for at least another 20 years, even those citizens who did not want to know which street the Eiffel Tower is on, had to put up with its existence.
Finally, the construction was saved from dismantling by the development of modern technologies. At the beginning of the 20th century, the first telegraph antenna was installed on the tower, and after another 9 years, in 1918, it was supplemented by a radio transmitter. Later, television transmitters joined them. As a result, the tower became a strategic object for the city.
Gradually, even those residents of Paris who did not recognize the tower as an architectural object resigned to its existence.
Gustave Eiffel died in 1923, but he passed away with the understanding that the structure erected thanks to him would remain in the city for a long time. Today, the face of Paris can no longer be imagined without a tower. Crowds of tourists come to its foot to see this magnificent building, which made so much noise. And the inhabitants of Paris are constantly being asked the question: “On which street is the Eiffel Tower?”, And the townspeople habitually answer “In the heart of the city, on the Champ de Mars”.
