Monuments to Shukshin in Altai Territory

In 2004, a monument to Shukshin was erected near the village of Srostki. The project belongs to Vyacheslav Klykov, a Soviet and Russian sculptor, author of more than thirty monuments. Splice is the native village of Vasily Shukshin. This monument is not the only monument dedicated to the famous writer, actor, screenwriter and director. The first was installed in Barnaul. The history of these monuments is briefly outlined in the article.

Picket - this is the name of the mountain in the Altai Territory, on which the monument is installed. The height of the hill is 560 meters. In order to get to the monument to Shukshin, you need to drive a little through the village of Srostki, turn at the Roadside Market, then onto Pioneer Street. After about 120 m there will be a left turn. Here you need to drive another 700 meters. Near the monument to Shukshin there is a small parking lot.

The monument is made of bronze. The pedestal is made of natural stone. Vyacheslav Klykov did not portray the director himself as his hero in the last episode of the film "Stoves and Shops".

The total height of the monument to Shukshin in Altai, near the village of Srostki, is 5 meters. Weight - 20 tons.

Vyacheslav Klykov

It is noteworthy that the sculptor began working on the monument in the mid-seventies. That is, several years after the death of Shukshin. He worked on the image of a Russian writer for many years, but completed the project, of course, long before the installation of the monument on Mount Picket.

City officials have proposed installing the monument elsewhere. Near Mount Picket, the remains of a Paleolithic settlement were found. It was decided to erect a monument to Vasily Shukshin three hundred meters from the Roadside Market. However, Klykov said: either the sculpture will be located where it was originally conceived, or near Samara, where the writer's ancestors come from.

Whether the remains of an ancient settlement were really discovered near Mount Picket is unknown. However, after the sculptor presented an ultimatum, the city authorities made concessions. In 2004, to the 75th anniversary of the writer, a monument was erected.

Vyacheslav Klykov is the author of sculptures installed in different cities of Russia. According to his project, a monument to Igor Talkov was created at the Vagankovsky cemetery. Nikolai Rubtsov - in Totma. Klykov worked on the images of such prominent people as Konstantin Batyushkov, Sergius of Radonezh, Ivan Bunin, Nicholas II, Alexander Pushkin, Fedor Dostoevsky.

Monument to Shukshin in Barnaul

This monument is the main and, perhaps, the only attraction of the Leninsky district. The exact address of the monument to Shukshin in Barnaul can not be called. The sculpture was installed in 1989 at the intersection of Yurin and Shukshin streets, at the very beginning of the latter.

The sculpture is cast in brass. The authors of the project are Nikolai Zvonkov and Mikhail Kulgachev. For several months, the sculptors were advised by the artist Vasily Rublev.

Initially, the writers wanted to portray in a suit. However, such vestments, apparently, did not correspond to the image of a β€œwriter of the people”. Shukshin is depicted in a simple shirt, thereby resembling one of his characters. The sculpture is mounted on a granite pedestal.

The monument to Vasily Makarovich Shukshin is located in the square, which appeared after the installation of the monument. Here, as in the writer's homeland, annually literary readings are devoted to his work. This square is a favorite place for residents of the Leninsky district. Not so long ago, viburnum was planted here - in memory of one of the best works of Vasily Shukshin.

Monument to Vasily Shukshin Barnaul

However, not everyone likes this monument. Some Barnaul people believe that there is too much tragedy in the sculpture. Shukshin is depicted as a tired, exhausted man. However, almost every story he wrote is full of tragedy. It would be strange if the sculptors depicted the author of "Viburnum red" with a radiant smile on his face.

A few words about Vasily Shukshin
