Lily diseases: how to treat?

If you decide to breed lilies at your summer cottage, you can be congratulated. This is a good choice, lilies are stunningly beautiful. But before you plant them, you should more fully consider information about the diseases to which lilies are susceptible and their pests. It should be added that some diseases arise from inappropriate care.

What is lily sick with?

lily diseases
One of the most dangerous and common can be called fungal diseases of lilies. Botritis, or gray rot, is a very serious illness. It is dangerous because the infection spreads very quickly across all the seedlings. With high humidity, fungi can kill a plant in just a few days. Initially, the young lower leaves are affected, then the disease spreads to the stem and buds. White hybrids of lilies are very susceptible to botritis.

Fusarium disease - this disease causes decay of the lower part of the bulb, gradually the disease covers and destroys it all. Infection occurs through tissue damage (obtained, as a rule, mechanically). The fungus can be brought during fertilizer along with insufficiently rotted manure. Under favorable conditions (high soil moisture), the fungus is able to linger in the ground for a couple of years.

In appearance, it is almost impossible to determine the disease. The plant continues to grow and grow normally. Such bulbs die during wintering, they turn brown and fall apart.

Phytium and blue mold are diseases of lilies, which are manifested in the decay of bulbs and roots.

If you notice that the plant begins to wither, the color of leaves, flowers changes, and the lily itself ceases to look as decorative as before, then perhaps the flower has a viral disease. Viral diseases of lilies affect the appearance of flowers: spots or streaks may appear on the leaves, the plant dries out and stops blooming. No matter how sad this may sound, viruses cannot be cured, and therefore such plants must be destroyed immediately to prevent the spread of the disease to other cultures.

Lily diseases can occur due to a lack of certain trace elements, poor drainage in the soil, as a result of which the roots rot, and the plant does not receive the necessary nutrition.

Adverse plant growth conditions primarily affect their appearance. Changing the color of leaves, impaired growth, plant development - all these are diseases of lilies (photos are shown) that can be eliminated and help the plant.

Pests

There are a lot of harmful insects that will not miss the opportunity to spoil the beautiful view of the lily. There are several insects of a specific species. For example, a lily beetle of a bright red color, which eats the leaves of plants. The larvae of such a bug can leave a lily almost without them.

The onion fly is dangerous because the larvae deposited by it make their way into the bulb, which then decays from damage.

Lily flies - the larvae of this insect, prefer to feast on the delicate parts of the buds, and the effects of these pests become visible when the flower blooms.

And, of course, aphids, which are dangerous in that they carry viruses that cause disease.

Both pests of lilies and animals, many of which are not averse to pampering their stomach with delicious bulbs - the plant needs to be protected from all these factors.

So that the plants do not hurt, they always look very decorative, it is worth taking care of such things in advance as fertilizers and drugs necessary for treatment and protection.
