Life expectancy in Belarus is not much different from similar indicators recorded in the territory of neighboring countries

Improving the quality of life of citizens is one of the tasks that political figures of the Republic of Belarus call primary. Although the most important indicator of quality - life expectancy in Belarus - is not yet quite satisfactory: in 2012, for example, the average life cycle of women was 77.6, while men could not overcome the 66.6-year threshold. The eleven-year “gap” is impressive, mainly due to the fact that, according to the UNDP quotation, the difference in 5 years is recognized as a natural phenomenon.

The cause of premature mortality has not been officially established.

“The reason,” Belstat believes, “is the high premature mortality of the male half of the country.” Interestingly, for urban residents, the age difference between a man and a woman is approaching 10.5 years, and in rural areas it is 12.6 years.

In 2012, the projected life expectancy of citizens was 68 years for men and 78.5 years for women. As for citizens living in rural areas, their life expectancy was 62.7 years (for men) and 75.3 years (for women). If you believe unofficial sources of information, the real reason affecting the life expectancy of men in Belarus is the lack of timely medical care and low-quality alcohol.

Humanity has grown old?

“The people of Belarus“ have grown old ”no more than citizens of friendly countries,” authorities answered the question of journalists. “The average life expectancy in Belarus, as well as the number of elderly people, is not much different from similar indicators recorded in neighboring states.”

According to the specification adopted by the United Nations, it is possible to talk about an aging nation if the number of elderly people (65 years and older) is 7% of the total population. Today, one million two hundred forty-four thousand citizens live on the territory of Belarus, whose age exceeds the 65-year-old mark, that is, 13.1%.

The average life expectancy of men in Belarus is a “headache” of the pension fund

Analysts are worried: in this situation, the current generation, already over thirty years old, will be forced to spend their old age without financial support from the state. Moreover, if the situation does not change over the next thirty years, there will simply be no one to replenish pension funds. This state of affairs is not unique to Belarus: its closest neighbors - Ukraine, Latvia and other countries - are in a similar situation.

Belarusian men were “lucky” - many of them were not destined to survive to retirement age, and, therefore, they would not have to “survive” without financial support from the state. But women, in particular today's young mothers, will have to learn to educate their babies so that a happy old age ends for them in the walls of their home and surrounded by loving households.

Life expectancy in Belarus is gradually increasing

As of January 1 of this year, five million seventy seven thousand women and four million four hundred twenty one thousand men lived on the territory of Belarus , and for every thousand men there were one thousand one hundred forty-nine women.

Life expectancy in Belarus, compared to 2010, has increased, and by 2015 it was 73.9 years. Minsk is considered the most densely populated Belarusian city - one million nine hundred and sixty thousand citizens live here, the percentage of which is 20.6% of the total population of the country. Three-quarters of the republic’s inhabitants are citizens.

About 70% of city dwellers live in large cities. Those, in addition to the capital, are several settlements. We are talking about Baranavichy, Bobruisk, Borisov, Lida, Mozyr, Novopolotsk, Orsha, Pinsk, Salihorsk and their regional centers. The Vitebsk region is considered to be the most “elderly” region of Belarus: the average age of the inhabitants of this area is a bit “below” 42 years. The city of Minsk and its environs is recognized as the youngest district. The average age of local residents is slightly less than 40 years.

Life expectancy in Belarus, perhaps, depends not only on the standard of living of the population of the republic, but also on the environmental situation: the cleanliness of water bodies, air and other factors.
