Which state has the white-green-red flag? What do flag colors mean?

The combination of green, white and red can often be seen in state symbols. It seems that everyone knows what flag Italy has, but other options with a similar combination of colors are not familiar to everyone. In the meantime, they deserve no less interest.

White-red-green flag

Hungary

The flag of this country has the shape of a rectangle, the sides of which relate to each other in a ratio of two to three. It is occupied by three equal horizontal stripes, made in the arms of colors. The country has been using the red-white-green flag since October 1, 1957. Each color has a symbolism. Red represents the blood of Hungarian patriots fighting for sovereignty, white represents the noble ideas of the people, and green is a sign of hope for a better future. Such shades were used for military parts in the middle of the sixteenth century. During the 1848 revolution, a red-white-green banner was also used . And the first flags of the late tenth century were scarlet. So it is safe to say that the combination of colors is tightly connected with Hungarian history. It is interesting that there is also an unofficial version of the banner, on which the emblem of the state is placed in the center.

Red-white-green flag - country

Wales

Perhaps one of the most unusual standards belongs to this state, which is part of the UK. The white-green-red flag has been used by the Welsh for centuries. The symbol is based on the traditional shape of the rectangle. It is divided into two halves: the upper white and lower green. In the center is a large image of a red dragon. The flag was adopted in 1959, but symbolism dates back to the time of the Roman Empire. The dragon was a long-standing sign of Wales, and white and green have been used for many centuries. For example, it was these flowers that were the shape of the warriors who stood for Henry the Eighth Tudor from Welsh lands. In 1807, the royal standard with the image of a red dragon on a green hill with a white background was used, and by 1953 the hill turned into a strip. At the same time, an image of the shield with a crown on top was added. But after six years, the white-green-red flag of Wales took on a modern look. It is not included in the common British symbol, which often causes discontent among local residents.

What is the flag of Italy?

Syria

This Arab Republic also uses the white-green-red flag. It has been officially adopted since 1980. The rectangular standard is covered with three equal horizontal stripes. The lower one is black, in the middle is white, and on the top is red, green is used for two large five-pointed stars in the center. Each color is associated both with the history of the state, and with the Arab region as a whole. Green represents the Fatimid dynasty and serves as a symbol of Islam. White was the color of the Umayyads, who led the caliphate for many years, black - the Abassids, who also made a great contribution to the history of the country. Red recalls the shed for freedom of blood, and the stars are Syria and Egypt, which created the United Arab Republic.

Lebanon

Another original white-green-red flag also refers to the symbolism of the eastern countries. The Lebanese cloth is rectangular in shape with an aspect ratio of two to three. Narrow red stripes are located at the edges, and a wider white one in the center. In the center is a schematic representation of a green tree symbolizing the Lebanese cedar. This version of the standard was approved in February 1967. Prior to this, the image of the cedar was two-tone. The white stripe on the flag symbolizes the purity of thoughts, the red - the blood shed in the liberation movements. Cedar is a traditional symbol of the country associated with the Christian religion.
