Pregnancy in cats - its duration and course

All living beings have the instinct of procreation. And pets like cats are also among them. There always comes a moment when a young cat turns from an ordinary playful kitten into an adult. In cats, this moment occurs 7-9 months after birth. This immediately becomes noticeable in her behavior. The female begins to demand more affection from the owner, and her meow becomes invocative and mournful. She also begins to walk with bent knees and rub against people and objects. And one who is familiar with the habits of cats understands that the female has reached puberty and wants to become a mother.

But do not immediately start looking for a "groom" for your cat. It is necessary to give her mother’s body strength and transfer the first meeting with the male to a later period. And when the female turns one year and two months old she will be completely ready to fulfill her maternal duty. And then after a successful “contact”, pregnancy occurs in cats. True, at such an early stage of external signs of pregnancy is not visible. But the “interesting position” of a female cat can be easily determined by her behavior.

The cat during this period becomes calmer, she begins to sleep more and eat less. In the morning she is weak and lazy, and the cat constantly asks the owner to caress her. And if other tetrapods live in the house, then she begins to take care of them. But it happens that aggression is manifested in her behavior. This behavior is inherent in females at the very beginning of the term. And then a logical question arises - what is the term of pregnancy in cats?

It is impossible to answer this question with great accuracy. Pregnancy in cats lasts about nine weeks on average. But such a period is not standard. Lambing can occur either earlier in the week, or a week later. True, premature kittens are born weak and they rarely survive. Also, this term for shorthair and long-haired breeds is also slightly different. Breeds with short hair usually give birth to kittens 4-5 days earlier than long-haired cats. The amount of future offspring also affects the gestational age. If a female carries more than five kittens, then she may have an early birth. And if the calves are smaller, then lambing time may be delayed.

But to determine the exact time of lambing, it is not enough to know how long the pregnancy in cats lasts . After all, not all cats are sufficiently "well-mannered" and it is not always possible to control the moment of conception of kittens. And the inexperienced catman can attribute the first signs of pregnancy to feline “malaise” or other reasons. But after 20-30 days, when the female rounds off and the nipples begin to peel off, it will become clear that she will soon become a mother. This can be verified by flipping it on your back. In addition, in the early stages of a pregnant female appears vomiting. This is quite normal and should not raise a panic.

And somewhere in the middle of the term, embryos grow to such a size that they can already be felt. This is done by gentle pressing on the abdominal cavity of the female. The greatest caution should be exercised here, otherwise a sharp and strong pressing can lead to a miscarriage. But this method is only suitable in order to confirm pregnancy in cats. And to find out how many kittens she will have with this method is difficult.

And when the sixth week comes, the pregnant belly becomes already very noticeable, especially if she wears several babies. Further, the pregnancy of the cat lasts more actively. Embryos begin to develop intensively, and after seven weeks they already begin to move. At this time, their heads are already being probed. Yes, and "mother" also become restless. The cat begins to look for a place in which she can calmly roam. And in the ninth week of pregnancy, her mammary glands increase to such a size that the nipples protrude. She becomes inactive and detached. Then it already becomes clear that the cat will soon bring offspring.
