Every evening, a loving nanny told him colorful stories about beautiful sorceresses and miracles that could make a person happy instantly, once and for all. And there is no need to make an effort. A fairy tale can come true. One has only to believe.
Ilya Oblomov recalls his native estate so often, reclining on his couch in a greasy, unchanged robe, that he begins to dream of the atmosphere of his home. And there is nothing sweeter than these dreams. However, from time to time something may return him to a gray unsightly reality.
Oblomov and Stolz
As an antipode to the Russian dreamer from a landlord family, the author introduced the image of a man of German origin into the work. Stolz lacks a penchant for idle thought. He is a man of work. The meaning of his life is labor. Advocating his ideas, Stoltz criticizes the lifestyle of Ilya Oblomov.
These people have known each other since childhood. But when the son of the owner of Oblomovka, accustomed to the slow, unhurried rhythm of being, arrived in Petersburg, he could not adapt to life in a big city. This heroine managed to “raise” Oblomov from the couch. Having met and fell in love with her, he began to get up early in the morning. There was no longer chronic drowsiness on the face. Apathy left Oblomov. Ilya Ilyich began to be ashamed of his old robe, hiding it away, out of sight.
Olga felt a certain sympathy for Oblomov, calling him a "golden heart." Ilya Ilyich had an extremely developed imagination, as evidenced by his colorful sofa fantasies. This quality is not bad. Its owner is always an interesting conversationalist. So was Ilya Oblomov. He was quite pleasant in communication, despite the fact that he did not know the latest Petersburg gossip and news. But in the active care of this man, Ilyinsky was attracted by something else, namely, the desire to assert himself. She was a young lady, although very active. And the ability to influence a person older than her, to change his lifestyle and thoughts unusually inspired the girl.
The relationship between Oblomov and Ilyinskaya could not have a future. He needed the quiet calm care that he received in childhood. And she was afraid of indecision in him.
The tragedy of Oblomov
Oblomov grew up in greenhouse conditions. In childhood, he may have shown childish playfulness, but excessive care from his parents and the nanny prevented the manifestation of all activity. Ilyusha was protected from danger. And it turned out that, although he grew up as a kind person, he was deprived of the ability to fight, set a goal, and even more so achieve it.
