In recent years, there has been a sharp increase in construction volumes. Therefore, the types of foundations used are of great interest. Often a grillage is used to erect some small buildings. What it is? So in the construction industry are called beams or slabs, which are fixed on piles buried in the ground. On this design, baths are often erected. In addition, the grillage strengthens the strip foundation when its width is too large.
Unfortunately, if you used this type of foundation to build a house, then you won’t be able to dig out the basement. However, given the fact that the grillage (what it is, was mentioned above) is often installed in loose soils and in the conditions of
permafrost, this drawback cannot be called particularly significant.
How to choose piles?
Most often, builders use concrete, reinforced concrete and steel piles. Very rarely applied are their wooden varieties. The modern foundation - grillage - is made using rammed piles, but often an injection type is used, in which the supports are poured on the spot. Varieties of them are also very good, for the installation of which it is necessary to use special equipment.
In order for the grillage (what it is, we already learned) to turn out reliable, you need to consistently follow the steps described below. To begin with, you should be aware that in most cases quite a lot of piles are required, which are located at a distance of about 1.5-2 meters from each other. To protect them from moisture, either
asbestos-cement pipes or a winding from a conventional roofing material are used.
First, it makes sense to seek help from a geodetic company, whose specialists will determine the type of soil prevailing on your site. Unfortunately, many do not think about this at all, why their pile grillage is sometimes subjected to too severe stresses, which may well lead to deformation and even destruction of walls.
It is to protect against such adverse effects that a sand cushion is prepared to prevent structural deformation due to soil movement.
Wells are being drilled under piles, and do not forget that they immediately place
asbestos-cement pipes or roofing material, which act as a waterproofing layer. Inside, reinforcement is inserted, after which
concrete mortar is
poured . It should be noted that the pile reinforcement should protrude above the soil surface: when pouring the grill itself, it should be connected with its base.
After reinforcing piles and foundations, the entire structure is poured with concrete. In principle, such a structure with full justification can be called a strip foundation on piles. It should be noted that the tape itself is not filled immediately after the completion of work with piles. More precisely, the grillage itself is concreted in about a week. Note that it is good to use loose polystyrene foam as a backfill, which excellently increases the thermal insulation qualities of concrete.
