Cemeteries are an integral part of the city's communal infrastructure. It is impossible to find a single settlement of any significance, near which there would be no cemetery. And large cities are surrounded by them from all sides. A lot of them are around Moscow. Let us take a closer look at what the Domodedovo cemetery is.
From the history
This object of the Moscow communal infrastructure has existed for more than a quarter of a century. The Domodedovo cemetery was founded by a resolution of the Moscow Soviet in 1984. Then the first graves appeared on the territory intended for the cemetery. But for mass graves, it was opened only after three years, in December 1987. The Domodedovo cemetery is located in the south of the Moscow region, near the city of Domodedovo, in honor of which it received its name. Today it is one of the largest Moscow cemeteries, its total area is 127 hectares. In the administrative sense, the Domodedovo cemetery is a structural unit of the Moscow State Unitary Enterprise "Ritual". The majority of Moscow cemeteries belong to this enterprise, regardless of where they are located - in the city or in the region.
How to get to the Domodedovo cemetery
The most reliable vehicle providing communication between the Domodedovo cemetery and the city is the bus number 510. It leaves from a stop at the Domodedovo metro station of the Zamoskvoretskaya line of the Moscow metro. On Easter week and on Parent's Day , several additional routes from different metro stations are organized. Alternatively, take a shuttle bus. What to do if you need to find some kind of grave, and its whereabouts are unknown? In this case, you should contact the administration. Her office is located near the central entrance to the Domodedovo cemetery. The list of burials is regularly maintained here from the moment of its foundation, and the chance that the necessary grave will be found is quite large. When applying for help, it is desirable to know the date of burial, this will greatly speed up the search process.
Territory and land improvement
The scheme of the Domodedovo cemetery is quite complex and not always logical. 250 plots are marked on it, but the pattern of increasing serial numbers is not always possible to trace. Therefore, it is best to find the necessary site on the stand at the entrance, where this scheme is located, and only then look for it on the ground. In recent years, a significant amount of work has been done on its improvement and landscaping throughout the vast territory of the cemetery. But only central avenues and main thoroughfares can be considered fully equipped. A ring one-way traffic scheme for vehicles is installed along them. Markings were made throughout the territory and signs were installed to facilitate the direction of movement to certain objects. At the main entrance are concentrated administrative and service structures. There is also a workshop where granite gravestones and marble monuments are made and installed. The Domodedovo cemetery has an extended territory, therefore, for the convenience of visitors, it has introduced an internal bus route since 2009. Remote areas of the territory are currently only awaiting work on their improvement and landscaping. These works are included in the long-term plans of the State Unitary Enterprise "Ritual".

War graves and temples
In 2005, on the anniversary of the Great Victory, the Military Memorial Necropolis was opened in the cemetery. Veterans of the war are buried on this site, as well as military personnel who died in local military conflicts and in the line of duty. Currently, several Orthodox churches are simultaneously operating at the cemetery. The most significant of them is the Temple founded in 1995 in Honor of the Icon of the Sorrowing Mother of God. In addition to it, there is also a temple in honor of the martyr of Huara of Egypt and a memorial chapel in honor of the icon of the Kazan Mother of God. Since 1992, the Domodedovo cemetery has been under the spiritual care of Metropolitan Krutitsky and Kolomensky.
Mode of operation
Currently, the free territory of the cemetery is almost exhausted. Therefore, only those whose relatives were buried at Domodedovo Cemetery in previous years can be buried here today. In addition, burying urns with ashes into the grave or wall of an open columbarium existing here is permitted. The question of whether reserve territories will be added to the Domodedovo cemetery is currently under discussion. A decision on this has not yet been made. The cemetery is open to visitors from 9 to 19 hours from May to September and from 9 to 17 hours from October to April. Mourning ceremonies are held at the Domodedovo cemetery daily from 9 to 17 hours.
