Is car tinting allowed today? The most painful topic of domestic motorists is glass tinting. As shown by repeated surveys of drivers, most of them are for. They do not consider it a hindrance when driving a vehicle, on the contrary, they list some advantages: protection from prying eyes, a more aesthetic appearance of the car, as well as the protection of glass from chips and scratches.
However, representatives of the
legislature completely do not share the opinion of the population.
The situation with tinting is regulated by two laws: Rosstandart "On tinting car windows" as amended in 2012 and the Technical Regulation on the safety of wheeled vehicles. According to them, the operation of the car in the case of applying or installing additional coatings that impair visibility from the driver’s seat and entail potential danger to other road users is prohibited. GOST defines the following standards for light transmission values for automotive glass :
- not less than 75% for the windshield;
- not less than 70% for the front side;
- for the rest - any, but subject to the availability of working rear-view mirrors.
There is another frequently asked question: "Is tinting of the upper part of the windshield permitted according to GOST?" Yes, but the height of the film strip should not exceed 15 cm.
What tinting is allowed?
Yes, there is still a way to darken the front windows, without violating the law. But here the question already arises not about whether tinting is allowed, but about whether it is needed in compliance with the norms of light transmission.
Suppose you can buy a 25% film, but this will not give a one hundred percent guarantee to avoid a
fine for violating traffic rules. The fact is that even factory automobile glasses do not reach the absolute transmittance of light, therefore, when choosing an additional coating, this error should be taken into account when choosing an even lighter tone.
Officially in our country there is a separate category of cars on which tinted windows are not a violation. Here's who is allowed to tint:
- cars managed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other special services;
- cars transporting civil servants;
- collection services.
Is tinting of personal cars permitted subject to the issuance of a special document-resolution? Yes, but in practice such cases are very rare.
Penalties for driving with tinted windows
Now let's talk about the most unpleasant for the driver - about fines. If earlier the violator had to lay out 500 rubles for driving with “rolled up” windows, then from July 2012, new amendments entered the Code of Administrative Offenses, allowing to remove license plates from “dark” cars.
Without a license plate, a violator can be driven during the day, as the text of the law says, "to go to the place of eliminating the reason for removal", that is, to a car service. You can not use the period provided and remove the tint coating on the spot. In this case, the numbers will remain with the owner, but still have to pay a fine. Removable tinting will not save you from punishment. The fact of its presence is already considered a violation, but a traffic cop can write a fine only when video recording your car or attracting witnesses. Otherwise, you can challenge the protocol and sue the traffic police officer.
