Any fence involves an entrance, which, as a rule, has a gate and a gate. These fencing parts are usually the most expensive elements of the fence due to the complexity of their manufacture and installation. However, in this case, it is quite possible to save money by doing the gate and the gate from the profile pipe with your own hands.
Advantages of a profile pipe as a material for a gate
Profile pipe is one of the most economical materials with excellent strength, reliability and long service life. The cost of a trade union pipe cannot be called low. However, the operational characteristics of the profile, as well as the possibility of creating structures from it without involving additional working hands, completely compensate for the price of raw materials. This allows us to attribute this material to the category of the most acceptable in order to make a gate from a profile pipe with our own hands.
All that is required is a minimal ability to work with a grinder and welding, as well as some knowledge in the drawings.
Drawing for the gate
Before proceeding to the manufacture of the structure, it is necessary to first draw up a drawing of the gate from the profile pipe. Firstly, it will allow you to accurately calculate the required amount of material. Secondly, this will guarantee a correct installation, lack of distortions and a neat appearance.
Initially, it is necessary to carry out all measurements, on the basis of which the drawing is carried out. This event includes measuring the gap between the supports and calculating the area of each leaf. By the way, even during the construction of the fence, it is necessary to arrange the poles on which the gates from the profile pipe will be mounted at a distance sufficient for the passage of a car or other equipment. Also note that there is enough space left for the full opening of future wings.
Features of the calculation
When planning a gate, be sure to consider the windage of the material. If the structure is located in an area that is freely blown, the flaps are not recommended to be made too large and made of solid material. The fact is that in this case, the load on the frame will increase significantly, which means that the gates from the profile pipe will have to be strengthened. This will increase the cost of fencing and more complex installation work. Therefore, it is preferable to use a building material such as mesh or grille.
What else needs to be done is to calculate the length of the wings so that they freely converge with each other. Gates from a profile pipe can be made of material of different sections: round, rectangular or square.
The most economical are the last two options; for their manufacture, slightly less raw materials are used than for round pipes. Another advantage of a square or rectangular section pipe is that even a novice welder can work with this material, since it is much easier to weld gates from profile pipes with straight sides.
In addition, do not forget about the size of the cross section of the pipe. Basically, profile pipes with a section of 40 x 20 mm or 50 x 50 mm are used. However, do not forget about the wind load on the structure, in some cases it is necessary to use a larger cross section, for example 60 x 30 mm.
Gate manufacturing process
Of course, the first thing that is required is to prepare all the necessary tools and material for work. If the profile pipe is covered with rust, it must be cleaned and degreased, and then cut into pieces of the required length. Some builders immediately coat the material with a primer and a protective compound. But during welding, the tool layer will be damaged, so it is better to carry out the processing after installation.
Often the question arises of how to properly weld the gate from a profile pipe. The main thing is to comply with the technology and the sequence of welding operations. Work without fail must be carried out on a stable, level area, not subject to ignition. In this case, a protective mask or glasses, gloves are used, and a suit made of thick fabric is chosen as clothing.
Sash welding procedure
The whole welding process takes relatively little time and is carried out in accordance with the general technology of this work. Before welding the elements with a continuous seam, they are pre-tacked by spot welding. Then check the accuracy of the dimensions of the manufactured part. If everything is done correctly, a weld is performed, which is subsequently sanded.
First, the frame or frame of the gate is welded at the corners, while making sure that both wings are in the same plane. Alternatively, first weld a common frame, which is subsequently cut in the middle. This approach ensures the accuracy of the required leaf sizes.
After the manufacture of frames, they need to be strengthened. To do this, additional stiffeners from the same profile are welded to the main frame, and triangular metal plates to the corners.
Another important point is the welding of loops. First, the halves of these parts are attached directly to the gate leaves. The second halves are put on and, having set the sash at the required height, the lower part of the hinges is welded to the supports. To carry out this work, it is better to invite another person who will fix the gate in the right position while grasping the hinges.
After completing all welding and grinding the seams, the finished frame is covered with a protective agent. It can be varnish, mastic or paint. Then you can proceed to the casing of the frame with the selected building material.
