How to drill glass (tips for the home master)

Most people have come across activities such as drilling glass. But, undertaking this work, it should be noted that it is practically impossible to drill hardened material - it cannot be drilled and as a result bursts. Therefore, you must know how to distinguish the quality of glass. The edges of the hardened material are always machined and have defects and dents that form from the shafts in the furnace.

There are several ways to drill glass. Consider the first one. For this we need some tools: plasticine or duct tape; a drill or screwdriver on which you can adjust the rotation speed; water; marker or felt-tip pen. And you will also need a tubular drill with diamond coating, the diameter of which will correspond to the diameter of the desired hole. Using these simple tools, weโ€™ll try to drill glass.

In order to make a hole, we will draw the desired diameter with a marker, that is, circle the place where you need to drill. Using plasticine along the contour of the marker, we will make a circle resembling a groove. For the same purpose, you can use a piece of wood, having previously made a hole in it with the same drill.

If you use the above material, it must be attached with adhesive tape to the glass. And water should be poured into the recess of the wooden strip. That is, the place where you need to drill will be under water. Do not forget that the liquid must be cold. This is necessary in order to cool the cutting site so that the glass does not crack during drilling. In this case, the water becomes white. Since it is simply impossible to drill glass without the formation of glass dust during operation, it is it that, mixed with the liquid, gives the same white tint of the liquid.

Drill very carefully so as not to damage the glass. At the very beginning, you need to work at the maximum speed of rotation of the drill, because at low revs a runout of the material is possible. Also at a low speed of rotation it is quite possible for the drill to go sideways. But at high speeds this does not happen, and therefore working at this pace is much easier.

When there is only a little bit left before the end of the process, the rotation speed of the diamond drill and the pressure on the glass should be reduced. If the effect is not weakened, a piece of material may fall out on the reverse side and thereby make the edge of the hole uneven. Also, one must not forget to constantly add water to the patches of the patches. So that subsequently there are no cracks on the glass, after the end it is necessary to grind the cut.

And now the time has come to consider another well-known method of how to drill glass. This technique has been known since ancient times. For work, we need such materials: lead or, possibly, tin, a gas stove or burner, sand, a metal mug, and also alcohol. First you need to prepare a place where drilling will be performed without a drill.

Do not be surprised, in the old days the craftsmen knew very well how to โ€œdrillโ€ glass without a drill! With the advent of progress in our lives, many extremely witty tricks of talented โ€œleft-handed peopleโ€ were undeservedly forgotten. But today a new time has come : a period of unearthing and revealing all the secrets and secrets of folk crafts and the skills of home craftsmen.

Starting the process, you need to take alcohol and thoroughly degrease the surface intended for drilling. Then pour sand mixed with glue on the prepared place. Next, make a funnel with a sharp object that will correspond to the desired diameter of the hole. Then we take the melted lead or, possibly, tin and pour it into the prepared hole.

The preparation process is completed. Now you need to give time, about 3-5 minutes, for this mass to freeze. After that, remove the solder formed, as a result of this, an absolutely even through hole will be obtained.
