M. Sholokhov, "Aleshkino’s heart." Summary of the story

M. Sholokhov devoted the events of the revolution, the First World War and the Civil War to a series of small-volume works called Don Stories. “Aleshkino’s heart” - a brief summary is given below - shows cruel reality when human life loses all value against the background of hunger that has swept the country. And killing is no longer perceived as something criminal and sinful.

Consequences of hunger

The protagonist of the story is the fourteen-year-old teenager Alyosha. In his village, hunger rules for the second year. The boy represented him as a huge black man, destroying people. Alyosha is completely swollen, his face is covered with dry skin, and his eyes seem empty hollows. This is the fifth month the family has nothing to eat. So begins Sholokhov "Aleshkino heart."

The summary continues with a description of the first tragedy in the boy’s family. One morning, Alyoshka, swaying, reached the wattle fence, where he saw the corpse of a foal. And in the evening, overeating meat, the younger sister died. There was no strength to bury her, because Alyosha and her mother carried the girl to the garden and, laying in a ditch, sprinkled with earth.

A week later, the eldest, Polka, climbed into the house of a wealthy neighbor, while she was not at home, and was full of cabbage. Upon returning, Makarchikha beat an asleep guest with an iron and threw her corpse into an abandoned well. So the author shows human cruelty in the story "Aleshkino’s heart."

Summary of what happened to the hero himself: he climbed into the cellar of a neighbor and drank milk. Makarchikha, noticing the boy, pounced on him with a pin pulled out of the wagon. Deciding that he, too, was dead, carried to the river and threw it on the silt. Having reached the barn, Alyosha began to chew on the grain eagerly. Suddenly I heard a voice. The boy got up and covered his face with his hands, waiting for a blow. However, a voice said good-naturedly: “Let's go. I have steamed wheat. ” In the room of the political committee of Sinitsyn, the hero ate greedily, until the bespectacled one took the pot: "You gobble up - you will die." This describes the fateful acquaintance for the boy Sholokhov.

Sinitsyn gave the boy a grenade - Aleshka was shorter than he was - so that he made his way to the window. But at that moment, when the hero pulled off the ring, a bandit appeared on the porch. He was holding a girl in his arms, followed by his mother. Alyosha immediately assessed the situation and lay down on the explosives. Sinitsyn, who saw this, managed to push the boy away and throw away the grenade.

The hero woke up in the hospital - a splinter hit him in the chest halfway from the heart. And Sinitsyn handed him a ticket of a member of the RKSM.
