Many travelers are interested in knowing where to find snow in Africa. It would seem that on this sultry continent it can’t be cold, and the locals do not know what frost is, and have no idea what snow is. But this is completely wrong. Even at the equator at the peaks of mountain peaks, albeit briefly, glaciers linger. What can we say about other, cooler countries located in different parts of the continent.
The weather in Africa is quite diverse. This is not so surprising, because 53 states are located here, and they all have their own geographical features, which, of course, affect weather conditions. We are used to seeing black people languishing in the heat. This continent has always been associated with deserts or rainforests. Tourists flying to Egypt, Algeria or Kenya in search of heat and sun will not even think of where to find snow in Africa.
Although the cold does not come to the hottest continent very often, it is not uncommon in northern states such as Algeria, Morocco or Tunisia. What can I say, even the sultry Sahara, on hot stones of which you can fry fried eggs, in 1979 covered with snow. True, this lasted only about 30 minutes, but the fact remains.
Moving further south, there is less and less snow. It can be found only on the hills. Frequent snowfalls provoke the formation of glaciers. Therefore, in the
mountains of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, you can often see white peaks, although most of them very quickly "gray" under the rays of the scorching sun. For travelers who have no idea where to find snow in Africa, the organizers arrange excursions to conquer the peaks of the local mountains. Tourists admit that this is an indescribable sight when the 50-degree heat remains below and a real glacier lies underfoot.
Snow in Africa can be observed from June to August. It is during this period that winter begins. South Africans can even make snowmen, there is so much rainfall here. The people of the Cape are not at all accustomed to a white winter. Sutherland gained fame as the coldest city in South Africa. In winter, here the air temperature quite often drops below zero degrees.
In the
Dragon Mountains, even before there was a ski resort, but in 2011 it was closed due to inept management. A large number of people rested here, and

. Cape Town is known to many thanks to its huge penguin population. But contrary to all expectations, locals here rarely see snow. Several ski resorts can be found in Morocco, they are located in the
Atlas Mountains.The only country where you can find snow in Africa every winter is the Kingdom of Lesotho, lost high in the mountains. Its lowest point is at the level of 1400 m, which is much higher than in any other state in the world. It has several ski slopes. The season opens in June and runs through September.
Snow on the hottest continent, although not a frequent visitor, is still not considered a curiosity for residents of some countries. Africa is full of contrasts, and dramatically changing weather conditions are clear evidence of this.
