Your plastic windows are sweating - what should I do?

Recently, plastic windows are becoming increasingly popular. If earlier only quite wealthy people could afford them, now everyone is trying to change wooden windows to plastic ones. With their help, it is easy to create comfortable living conditions, since they perfectly keep the temperature. But at the same time, many are faced with a problem - plastic windows are sweating. What to do in such a situation? Let’s start with a look at the reasons why condensation forms on the windows.

The most interesting thing is that different types of windows are fogged up: wooden, plastic, and aluminum. But most of all they pay attention to double-glazed windows made of plastic. The appearance of moisture on the glass worsens the appearance and visibility, in addition, leads to wetting of building structures, as well as the development of fungi and mold.

The rules for the operation of PVC windows say that the temperature in the room where they are used should not be less than eighteen degrees. Because the plastic windows are sweating. What to do? Solve the problem of establishing normal heating in the room in order to eliminate precisely this reason for the appearance of condensation on the windows.

When installing double-glazed windows there is a violation of heat transfer, since the design of the windows hermetically closes the room from the penetration of outside air. As a result, there is an increase in the humidity level in the room. And then physics enters into action, explaining that a liquid can change its state when the temperature changes. In particular, an increase in temperature leads to the evaporation of the existing liquid and its existence in the form of steam, which, when the temperature decreases, settles in the form of moisture on the coldest surfaces. It is glass that is such a surface, and quite often its lower part.

Why is the humidity level in the room increasing? As already mentioned, the density of the window is such that air and heat cannot circulate freely, which leads to an increase in humidity. Recently constructed buildings and premises, as well as repairs made therein, are also the cause of this. Because building structures retain moisture for about two years. And the presence of boiling pots in the kitchen or drying clothes after washing also contributes to this.

Now we know why the windows are sweating, what to do is to reduce the humidity in the room. To do this, you can ventilate the room a couple of times during the day for fifteen minutes or install double-glazed windows with a special system that allows you to ventilate the room in automatic mode.

A number of other reasons can lead to the fact that plastic windows "cry". What to do is eliminate them. For example, the design of the window does not meet the requirements of operation, that is, a single-chamber double-glazed window is installed in the living room , which cannot fully realize its functions. Or when sealing windows were used low-quality seals or sealants. Holes that divert water in the window profile itself may still be improperly made.

Also, mistakes made during installation can cause plastic windows to sweat. What to do? To control the process of installing double-glazed windows, paying particular attention to the following points:

  • the quality of sealing joints with foam ;
  • the correct location of the window in the opening;
  • the use of quality sealants.

Sometimes even the presence of a too wide window sill or a large number of plants on it can lead to plastic windows sweating. What to do? Reduce the width of the window sill so as not to disturb the circulation of warm air from the batteries or rearrange the flowers.
