For more than forty years, the Botanical Garden of Moscow State University "Pharmaceutical Garden" has been a recognized monument of Russian history and culture. The decision to grant status was made by the Moscow government in May 1973. The whole history of this unique garden has more than three centuries.
From the history of the park
The decree of Peter I, which refers to 1706, is considered to be the date of birth of an unusual enterprise, which later became known as the Aptekarsky Ogorod Botanical Garden of Moscow State University. Initially, a pharmacy garden was established for the cultivation of plants that have medicinal properties and are used to prepare special preparations. At different times, the owners of plantations of medicinal plants were the Pharmaceutical Order, the Moscow Hospital, and the Medical and Surgical Academy. The story was such that, in addition to its direct purpose - the cultivation of medicinal plants for the production of medications, the pharmacy garden was used to conduct practical classes for medical students, biologists. It is for this reason that the plantations were transferred to the management of Moscow State University from 1805 and until today belong to the university, being an experimental site for studying the plant world of the planet.
The current state of the park
Today, the botanical garden of Moscow State University "Pharmaceutical Garden" has an area of โโabout forty hectares. The park territory is divided into two parts, the largest of which is located on the Sparrow Hills, and the smaller - the older one - is located on Mira Avenue.
The entire structure of the Pharmaceutical Garden is divided into sectors, such as tropical, subtropical, garden plants, arboretum, rock garden and many other departments. In accordance with this division, certain exhibitions are organized for visitors, festivals are held, and informative and entertaining events are held.
