Lappeenranta is a large Finnish city located near the border with Russia. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Saimaa, sixty kilometers from Vyborg, two hundred kilometers from St. Petersburg. The city was formed in 1649, today it is one of the largest cultural and economic centers of such a region as South Karelia.
Lappeenranta Airport was founded in 1918 as a special military airfield. It is located a few kilometers from the city center and thirty kilometers from the Finnish city of Imatra. At the beginning of 2009, Lappeenranta Airport receives international status, while the Irish and Latvian national airlines open the first routes in several of the most popular European destinations. Currently, the annual passenger flow is about one hundred fifty-one hundred and sixty thousand people. You can get from the city center to the Lappeenranta Airport stop by bus or taxi for ten to thirteen euros.

There are several catering points in the terminal building where you can have a bite to eat, drink a cup of tea or coffee, and if necessary warm up baby food. In addition, everywhere there is access to free wireless Internet, there are children's rooms, postal services and a lost property office. Directly in front of the terminal there is a small parking lot with a limited number of free places where you can park your car for one hour. Subsequent payment for parking is carried out both by credit card and cash.
The rather close location of this airport from St. Petersburg contributes to the fact that an increasing number of Russians begin to fly to European countries from Finland.
This turns out to be an order of magnitude cheaper and much more reliable. At the same time, it takes only a few hours to get to the Finnish border. For these reasons, every year, tourists from Russia are increasingly using the airport in Lappeenranta as a transit point for organizing further routes to European countries. About 50% of the total passenger flow today is made up of citizens of the Russian Federation. In addition to geographical proximity, this phenomenon is also facilitated by the fact that many European air carriers offer their passengers air tickets at prices much lower than those of Russian airlines.
If you add all of the above together, it turns out that coming to Lappeenranta airport and getting from here to the final destination is very convenient and advantageous in terms of financial costs. Moreover, the transfer from St. Petersburg is carried out constantly. You can get to Lappeenranta Airport either by shuttle bus or by comfortable minibuses. A large number of agencies today organize individual and group trips at any time convenient for the client, see off and meet upon arrival.
