Not only residents, but also guests of the capital of Ukraine love to visit various attractions, one of which is the Sports Palace. Kiev boasts many large-scale buildings. And this building is one of them. Today it is a multifaceted complex, which differs not only in appearance, but also in the use of high-tech innovations. This place has survived for more than a dozen years and is regularly modified, changed, taking the form of what can be seen today.
History of creation
In the very center of Kiev, at the foot of the Cherepanova Mountain, there is a large and unique sports and viewing indoor structure, which is a landmark in Ukraine. The sports complex was built in 1958-1960 by architects A. I. Zavarov, M. I. Grechin and engineers S. Chudnovskaya, V. I. Repyakh. The basis of the design is a reinforced concrete product. The building was built on four floors with an area of more than two hundred thousand square meters.
The Sports Palace (Kiev) opened its doors on December 9 in 1960. Competitions were held in the arena, its capacity reached 12 thousand people. But twenty years later, the building was reconstructed. They improved lighting and technical equipment, completely transformed the halls, provided special latrines for participants and created spaces for small cafes. Also in 2004-2005, restructuring of the complex was again carried out, in which the number of visual places was increased.
The Sports Palace turned out to be beautiful and roomy, Kiev invites everyone to its walls. Over its many years of work, it has repeatedly become the venue for various championships, as well as exhibitions and fairs. About five thousand concerts, fifty tournaments, seminars and conferences, ice shows took place here. Well-known world stars and groups performed. In 2005, the Eurovision music show was held and already in 2009 they organized a children's contest-analogue.
Arena
In April 2011, they held a ceremony to open a sports complex after a six-month break. During this time, the arena and locker rooms were repaired here. Also, new seats were installed, painted in the symbolic colors of the national flag, and a modern electronic display, which in shape resembles a cube. It is made of four plasma screens that are able to broadcast any sports and concerts taking place in the arena. The scene of the arena, which is a masterpiece, deserves special attention. It is unique in its rectangular shape. This allows guests to see well everything that happens from anywhere in the stands. Behind the scenes is the central hall, in which there is a lot of space for rehearsals, as well as the work of an exit restaurant for artists. Locker rooms have showers, bathrooms and massage tables, as well as wardrobes for clothes. Their rooms are easily converted into comfortable dressing rooms, where, if necessary, you can install mirrors and special furniture.
Foyer Welcome zone & Hospitality
When there are no concerts and competitions, various exhibitions and expositions are held throughout the lobby area, located on two floors. The first floor of the Welcome zone is the main gate with eleven aisles. In addition, there are four separate entrances for VIPs. There are also dressing rooms that can serve up to ten thousand people. Guests going inside pass through a new control system for electronic tickets. For organizers it is very convenient to count the number of visitors. On the second floor of the Hospitality there are six entrances to the arena sectors and more than fifteen buffets. It also hosts exhibitions as it did at the first. Presentations are regularly held on the territory, and shooting pavilions can be installed.
Museum "Palace of Sports" (Kiev)
Almost fifty years after the opening of the complex, a history museum has appeared here, in which visitors can see more than three hundred exhibits. Each of them is interesting in that it displays a piece of the past.
Here you can see various documentation that outlines the progress of construction. You can plunge that day when the Sports Palace, which Kiev is proud of, first opened its doors. All this is possible thanks to photographs from that memorable event. In addition, a variety of letters, cups are collected here.
