Why is it better to replace the word "horizons", and how to do it?
We don’t know how to readers, but it seems to us that the word horizons is a word that is outdated with an obvious Soviet flavor. And by the way, one should not think that everything Soviet should be forgotten on this basis, not at all. If we talk, for example, about some films or books, then they are beautiful. At least, much better than modern ones, but the language of the Soviet era, including everyday, was not the best.
On the one hand, one can say that “horizons” are metaphorical. On the other hand, if the question arises, what does this even mean, then imagery obscures the meaning, and when people talk to each other, they want to be understood first of all. How to painlessly replace the "horizons"? Very simple: you can say about a person that he is educated. No need to say that someone has a “broad outlook”, this is superfluous.

The question begs, is there an expanded horizons? We may be slightly behind language practice, but it seems that the concept of broadened horizons is the result of the computer age. Because now extended versions of films, games are in fashion, therefore the prefix “races” is also added to the adjective “wide”, although this is redundant.
The horizons are narrow and wide. If the first - a person is little or completely uneducated, then the second - a person is educated. But in this case, not everything is so simple, because you can have a wide range of interests, but be uneducated, because the quality of knowledge is determined not so much by coverage as by depth.
Relatively speaking, any scientist, one way or another, in the course of his professional development narrows as much as possible, especially now, when any field of knowledge has overgrown with many details and particulars. Therefore, the time of the encyclopedists has passed, and the amateur, on the contrary, is expanse: he does not need to choose exactly where to specialize. It follows: a broad outlook is not always good, because the depth of knowledge is also important.

It is important to remember that if there is an opportunity, it is better to express more specifically, because it will become more clear what exactly the person is talking about. In other words, if someone wants to say that his brother, matchmaker, friend reads a lot of books, understands Renaissance painting, or knows Hegel’s works by heart, then let him say so. Do not obscure the essence of the matter with stationery phrases, the peculiarity of which, as you know, is fantastic abstractness and the same emptiness.
