For the first time, the chess queen became a character in the fairy tale thanks to Lewis Carroll, who chose her as a strict mentor and examiner for his Alice. Since then, both adult girls and girls have been happy to choose the image of this character for appearing at New Year's carnivals.
It is quite difficult to make a chess queen costume with your own hands. However, if you have sewing skills, and you have a great desire to bring joy to your child, then after spending a few hours, you can make an outfit that will highlight your baby among the participants of the New Year holiday.
Chess Queen costume for a girl (option number 1): materials
To sew such an outfit you will need:
- 1 m of white and black satin or other shiny fabric;
- 10 cm black and white mesh;
- some non-woven spiderwebs for gluing fabric;
- black paint for batik.
If you do not have a ready-made dress pattern with a detachable waist, then you can take a sleeveless T-shirt of a suitable size as a template for the top.
Chess Queen Carnival Costume: Master Class
Sewing a carnival outfit is performed in the following order:
- sew an ordinary black half-skirt;
- from white fabric, using a sleeveless t-shirt as a pattern, cut out the details of the top of the dress;
- stitch them together;
- process the collar and sew the frill-collar from the black mesh (you can make a two-layer, so that it is more magnificent);
- chess pieces and a crown are cut out of cardboard, which will be used as patterns;
- sew a white apron the length of a skirt;
- it is sewn in or left to hang freely, tied up behind;
- they draw an apron on the cells and stagger black with batik paint;
- connect the top of the dress with the skirt;
- cut lantern sleeves and paint them with black paint to make strips;
- sew sleeves to the dress.
To make the outfit lush, use ready-made lower skirts. If they are not, they themselves sew from a white mesh, preferably in several layers.
Dressing
The chess queen's costume needs to be decorated with applique. For this:
- using the patterns of chess pieces, cut them out of white satin and from a non-woven cobweb;
- warm the iron;
- impose a non-woven part on the hem, and on top of the same fabric;
- ironed with a blank sheet of โprinterโ paper;
- In the same way, the front of the chest makes an application of the Queen's figures.
Crown
A chess queen's costume would be incomplete without an appropriate headgear.
You can use a traditional crown, for example, carved according to the pattern presented above, and decorated with pieces of foil, golden braid, artificial pearls, sparkles, etc.
Alternatively, you can offer to make a chessboard out of cardboard, stick on it several figures and wear it on your head, fastening it to the rim.
Outfit based on the finished dress
A chess queen costume can be made by remaking old clothes. For example, if your daughter has a boring white or black dress, then it can be turned into a carnival outfit by decorating.
Consider the option presented in the photo below. When creating it:
- a cut-off black velvet dress was decorated with white lace cuffs and a collar;
- a crown was cut out of golden foil and glued to the chest;
- calculated the size of one square for the decor (the length of the hem was divided by 16);
- made paper patterns of 3-4 chess pieces;
- cut out 16 white squares of the right size;
- sewn to the hem in a checkerboard pattern;
- made an application with chess pieces as described above;
- made a crown of golden foil.
Simple option: what is required
The chess queen costume, the photo of which is presented below, can be made much faster than the previous one. To do this, you need to have at hand:
- white and black tulle;
- non-woven cobweb;
- any black cloth (you can take old clothes in black);
- unnecessary white turtleneck;
- a fluffy white petticoat.
Tailoring
A simple chess queen costume is sewn like this:
- open the seam of the sleeve of the turtleneck and cut it to the shoulder to get 2 parts;
- sew 2 triangles of black tulle;
- cut out figures for applique from fabric and non-woven;
- sew a white layered tulle skirt;
- paste the figures in the same manner as described above, but set a low temperature indicator on the iron and always put paper on it;
- cut out of black fabric and sew a belt of such a length that it could be tied with a bow;
- on the chest of the turtleneck paste an image of some chess piece or crown using a non-woven cobweb.
- make a crown of black paper .
Difficult option
Do you want your daughter to look like a real chess queen? A suit (New Year's) will be easier to make if you find a fabric with the corresponding pattern.
The basis of a chic Victorian-style dress is a fluffy skirt of several layers. It is sewn of fabric with a chess design and of white satin, painted with figures of the queen. To apply them, you need to make a stencil from thick cardboard and fill it with black paint for batik.
When the skirt is ready, sew the upper part, which should be planted according to the figure, and connect them together, complementing the Basques.
Sleeves-lanterns are cut out of white fabric, and a checkered collar with a lining made of cardboard is made of chess so that it beautifully โstandsโ, like a real royal person.
How to complement the costume
The queen, even chess, needs shoes. For its manufacture, you can take any shoes in black or white and arrange accordingly. For example, 2 parts in the form of small bows are cut out of cardboard. They are pasted over with golden foil or self-adhesive paper. Then, smaller bows are made from satin ribbon and combined with paper buckles or a beautiful button. Decor is fixed to the shoes with double-sided tape.
The costume can also be supplemented with a mask. It is made of black velvet paper and adorned with rhinestones or artificial pearls of white color. A fan in a "chess" design will also look beautiful.
If the desire to sew is not lost, you can add a cloak to the dress. It is cut out in the form of a quarter of a circle and slightly collected in folds at the gate, adding ties. The cloak can be double-sided (black with a white lining or vice versa), and on the back it should be decorated with an application in the form of a crown.
Now you know how to sew a chess queen costume on your own. Photos of the options presented above will help you not only choose a specific model, but also perhaps inspire you to create an exclusive outfit in which your daughter will be out of competition.
